The T/T motor is attached with 3 phillip-head screws. It is not possible to access 2 of these screws and apply enough down force and twisting motion to turn the screws. In fact, I had to grip the one screw that is accessable with vice grips to get it loosened. This is on a 1999 80hp Yamaha. I want to remove the motor to thoroughly sand, prime, and paint this old motor. I have done a good job removing all the rust on most of the motor, but about 1/4 of it is so close to the transom that it is almost impossible to refinish. It looks like I could lock the motor in the raised position, adjust the hydraulic piston to remove all load, then remove the pin that attaches the piston to the engine. Is this pin pressed in or should I be able to tap it out with a rod and hammer? I could then swing the hydraulic pump down and get to all 3 screws.
