Sturgeon

Tyboo... thanks for the sturgeon lesson. Sure sounds like a lot of fun and something different for the taste buds too! Go get'em! Butch

Hi Butch,

My favorite way to cook sturgeon is to marinate it an hour or so in olive oil and lemon juice then throw it on the BBQ. That's what we're doing tonight with the last package that was in our freezer. I knew it was in there but didn't realize it was not the last of our catch, but it was two nice big chunks Mike gave me just before we started fishing them last year. Turns out that it was caught on the TyBoo and put up by Kay in July of 2002. Those Food Savers are great because it smells fresh and there was no freezer burn. I know it will be great tasting too. A great fish and it even keeps well.

Thanks TyBoo,

Tim

Well, if I get backout to Whidby Island for my company, maybe you all can introduce me to some of "that" fish. The way you indicated it was prepared sounds delicious.... besides maybe I can make some time to meet Les. I can even give you all a lesson or two in speaking southern, West Virginia style  Tyboo Mike and Les have become the unofficial spokespersons for C Dory :thup ... kind of like the Wendy's commercial with their famous unofficial spokesman who loves the product.
later all and have a safe week! Butch

Here's another way to fix it, compliments of Tiffany. Cook it up like Raven Dave says, and then put it in some sweet-and-sour sauce Chinese restaurant style. Just had it for dinner. Excellent.

Tiffany,

My votes with you cause you're the sturgeon queen. I'll get some sweet and sour sauce next time, that's if you'll help grampa catch it and he'll part with it too.

Hey,

Anyone hit the river for a sturgeon trip today? The trees down here kept swaying so I just kept doing my household chores. Don't know if I'll try tomorrow or keep Judy company at the Sunday Market and forgo a fish trip in the morning.

Tim

Mike,
Those are great pictures. That Tiffany is really a working queen and not one of those sit on the bum types. I also like the way she holds her lip when she has a fish on. Cool.

Tim

Back from my second day in a row of sturgeon fishing, yesterday with Judy and we had one keeper. Spent about 5 hours on the water, had a good time and the fish was traded in for canned at "Sturgeon Pauls" for his smoked/canned which will get used as Christmas presents. Today was spent with "Helen O" Larry aboard. We put in about 8 hours but no keepers. We did land two legals from last year and got to watch them both swim away. They'll be back and we'll be back. All in all it was another great day on the water and not at work. At least not at work for ME since this is the only job Larry has now. Damn but I got to get into his line of work. Someday.

Tim

That Tiffany is looking pretty serious there, you're going to turn her into a fishing bum like Larry :)
When's the official C-Brat sturgeon derby going to be? We'll be going upriver a bit this weekend but hope to make it down the following weekend.

A guy from the school started mooring by you guys this year (he drives a blue trimed Bayliner). He was telling me about all the C-Dorys tied up down there. I told him to give you guys hell if he runs into ya's

Thanks for the guided sturgeon trip, Tim! I had a great time, sunburn and all. Even though we didn't get a keeper I still caught my personal best at 42". We'll get em' next time.

OK, here's the deal. I just got home a few hours ago from my yearly trip trout fishing in British Columbia with a group of guys I know and we had a GREAT Time. Now I'm home and need to know about whats been going on with our sturgeon fishing. I have some smoked fish that I can share for the right , and first, info as to what I should do with the boat.

Uh, take it Sturgeon fishing.... I mean I think that is the answer you are looking for.

BUT, since you have a sea worthy boat.... Why not go Tuna fishing?

Reports are that there is such an onslaught of Coho this year I expect the season to close early as you will not be able to keep them off your line.

There are a few options to ponder

Sounds like you have a fishin addiction Tim. So anybody know how the sturgeon fishing has been?

I gots next week off and am looking for a crew to help harvest some of those big buggers, anybody interested ? Lyle, Larry, Pat (you might lose your Sturginitity)

B~C,
Looks like the Lynn Marie will be trying our luck at some of those ruff sided rascals this week-end. I'm just waiting for Judy to get off work and then we're headed for Warrenton to put the boat back in the water. May even stick our nose out into the river and see about an evening bite. I'll let you know if we do.

Would be cool to get a sturgeon festival going this week-end. Weather sounds like it should be good too.

Tim

Tim, for sure, we'll be down Saturday afternoon and staying over in Illwaco for a Sunday fish. I'll bring those carpet patterns and hunt you down if you're on the river or at least stop in and stow them on your boat.

From what I hear at work, the fishing has been real good. If you run across the guy that drives the "George Emery", pick his brain. His kid is with the Fish and Game Dept and they've been netting and tagging sturgeon in that area, he knows some stuff about the fishery and doesn't mind sharing

I could of sworn B~C was in the sturgeon grounds today, because we sat out there for five hours with nary a nibble. Not even Miss Tiffany could make anything happen.

Might try again Saturday morning about daylight, but we have to be home by noon.

We put the boat in yesterday and motored out to the end of the Skipanon and it was smooth sailing till we hit the river then the lump showed up so we motored back in and cooked dinner on the boat before heading home. We'll be back out Saturday early before the wind shows up.

See you out there, Tim
