Starcraft Islanders

I refuse to be boatless this winter. Calculating plan B's C's etc.

Does anyone know anything about Starcraft Islanders? From my research, they've been made for decades, are rivited aluminum (the hewescraft guys gawk at them) most came with I/O's (booo) but some with outboards. 18-24 ft. Some have hardtops, all seem to have sleeping cuddys. Affordable to say the least.

My understanding is they are great fresh water boats. I was considering one of the 21ft boats with the outboard bracket before I bought my Cape Cruiser.
 
I have owned two starcraft boats in salt water. Great boat that is built well and handles great. I had a 16 open and a 19 ft closed bow. Both of my boats were 30 to 35 years old when I bought them and neither of them leaked at all. Their light weight allows for smaller motors then fiberglass boats of the same size. I ran my 19 with a older 70hp Johnson. It would run at 25 with 4 on board with no problems.

at one time my goal was to own a 21 to 24 islander. and had I not found c-dorys and the brats I would have gotten one and been very happy with it. The lay out of the 22 to24 are the same as the 26 Chris craft that my folks had in Baltimore years ago which started my love affair with boating.
 
I owned a StarCraft Islander 191V Cuddy Mercuiser 3.0 L, good boat.Hard to dock in a wind though, the C-Dory is a way better boat.
 
I had a 2000 Starcraft Islander 224 cuddy cabin with a Mercruiser I/O. It was a nice boat and we put a portapotti in it and used a cooler and coleman 2 burner stove and spent some nice weekends on it. It was very easy to trailer, launch and retrieve, and nice to fish from. If I were buying one now I would opt for an outboard, mainly because the cover for the I/O took up too much cockpit space. But I found the boat well built, fun to run, and very suitable for our uses (weekend cruising, fishing, etc.).

looks like a nice used boat. I would offer $2000 to start. the in line six was a great motor that will run forever as long as you A) keep water running thru it and B) keep oil in it. Sounds like the drive unit is a newer one but have it inspected by some one that knows outdrives. For 2k its hard to go wrong. Hell if you dont like the boat strip it, paint it and sell it for 3k next spring.
 
Io,io,its off to the shop I go. Lots to go wrong on them, bad rubber boots they can sink a boat. Heat exchangers???? Heavy. I guess if you are familar with them and can give them proper service they are ok for some. For me I see them as, bad smoke, 666, a 13 of sorts, remember the eleventh commandment thou shall not take part in bad scenes etc.. time to find a boat with a true inboard or an outboard life is to short to fool with an I/O. Just my 2 cents.

I saw this boat earlier today. It's in very good condition. The owner has had it for 15 years. He seems to love the thing...but it's not my kind of boat. I'm an outboard guy plain and simple. Good to be reminded. :)
