Went to install our Garlick Gullwing swim step on the CD22 today. Expecting to drill out the hole 5/8 then fill with epoxy and then wait days (seeing that it has not been that warm lately) for the epoxy to dry and then install the steps.

Well, I was very pleased as I drilled thru the transom (right where the transom hook is) - and NO wood shavings came off the drill. That area is solid fiberglass - great news.

Now, tomorrow I'll get the backing plate, the bolts, and a bit of 4200 and I'll be all set.

Gotta like that.
 
Robert, Ya some days things just do go right. Just wondering if you keep your rig at home or in a marina during the summer. I am looking at a trip your way to do some fishing and would be grateful for any tips on good places to put in or stay for a week. I'm on the west side of the state about 5.5 hours from you.

We keep our boat in a slip in Purves Lagoon in Sturgeon Bay. We own a lot in the small subdivision that includes a 38' slip in the home owner's marina.

If you are looking for the best marina in Sturgeon Bay, I'd go to Centre Point marina -- they are the newest marina with a pool and nice facilities and also an easy walk to downtown Sturgeon Bay.

If you just want a quiet place to put the boat, then Sturgeon Bay Marina's would be the place. The oldest of all the marina's, but quiet and probably the cheapest. We kept our Sundower Tug there for a number of years before we purchased out slip.

The other option is QuarterDeck Marina - they have a nice marina with pool.

Another place that you can check would be Bay Marine (www.baymarine.net) - I believe they run a small marina/slips that is right downtown. This would be a nice transient place to go.

If you keep the boat on the trailer, then Sturgeon Bay has a large launch facility (Sawyer Park) that all the Salmon fisher's use. Huge parking lot with 4 launch ramps. I think they charge $5 to launch.

Yup, "Some Days Are Just Good Days", I've had mine, too....

Yesterday, I bought a 9 foot (2.8 meter) Avon Rover 280 Hypalon Inflatable for $275!

It's been in storage for 10 years, and I'll have to paint the wood floors and transom with polyurethane paint to spruce it up, but it's otherwise in very good and immediately usable condition. No leaks, just a little rub rail to glue down.

The fellow that I bought it from is a retired electrical engineer that bought it in Africa when his PVC inflatable exploded one of its side tanks on the beach in the sun.

They started out their journey going South through Mexico, Latin America, the Canal, the Caribbean, then over to the Mediterranean, and finally, to Africa, then returning home. Along the way they dumped a 40 foot fiberglass sailboat for a 46 foot Dutch steel hulled ketch, and also replaced the dinghy. Some boats just aren't up to certain tasks! (A familiar story, told over and over...)

The day before, Saturday, I bought a Sevylor 12v dinghy motor for $8 at a yard sale. Nearly unused.

Some days you get lucky, I guess.

That's my story and I'm stuck with it!

Robert, Thanks for the information on the marinas, you just saved me a bunch of time trying to find one that also keeps the better half interested. When I get up there and finish our trip I'll post a report of the good times.
