Sockeye Fishing on the Taku river

Spent a couple of days up the Taku river gill netting sockeye and it was the best fishing we have seen in years. 4 Permit holders limited out in 2 hours and all of the sockeye were 8 - 10 pounds (hogs for sockeye).

Kind of nice to have a healthy fishery around with all of the poor fishing this year. I am kind of wondering if anyone else has run into a healthy run; there has been too much bad news lately! A couple Pics are in my album.

What is the limit per person? Looks like good size fish. I hope we get a sockeye season here. It does not look like it but the sockeye run on the weenathcee is so big that they may open the lake for the first time in years.

Tom:

The limit for sockeye on the Taku is 5 fish per person or 10 per house hold of more than one person so we got 10. We weighed the fish and they came out to 77 pounds for the 10 (without guts and heads) which is very unusual. I suspect that because we are fishing at the end of the season that these fish had more time to fatten up.

Its interesting that there are strong sockeye runs on the Wenatche, we also have strong sockeye runs on the Russian up north but a little south of here at Sweetheart creek I have heard they are not getting the fish.
