SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Spent the last two afternoons/evenings, after work, cleaning up all the spaghetti wiring behind the dash, including drilling into the dash and feeding all the 740S wiring down behind it via the Garmin mount and feeding all the associated Garmin cables into it.

Marked everything with labels and installed a fuse block for all the Garmin connections, thus eliminating the in-line fuse holders etc.

Seems everything is working. 8)

Ahhh! That's got to be a great feeling. I started the same project last time I was at the boat, and got to the "okay, I've figured out what all this spaghetti is, now to plan the best way to re-do/tidy things up." Everything is so much easier when it's all labeled and organized. Would love to see a pic if you are so inclined (inspiration and I always get good ideas).

Just returned from a 13 day trip in the San Juans and Gulf Islands.
Spent 6 days at Sucia Island, 3 Poets Cove South Pender Island, 2 Cowichan Bay and 2 Ganges Harbor at Saltspring Island.

Mostly dry and warm, some interesting gusts and showers and some awesome water conditions.

Our take aways: BC great food at pubs, San Juans are still #1 at the State Parks. BC in the future will include more of their parks and Princess Louisa and then Desolation Sound.

Son and grandtoddlers went out for a short cruise, and then celebrated a birthday. Later in the afternoon we watched the USS Stennis come into Naval Base Kitsap, and fun also watching a ferry pass it on the way in. Sorry I don't have a picture, my camera is somewhere around but ....

Saturday Aug 20 cruised over to Ft McRae cove, a bracing 90 degrees, water 86 degrees. Took a 2 hour walk on the Gulf side Johnson Beach (part of Gulf Islands Natl Park) with nobody in sight in either direction. For all the women who supposedly like ‘long walks on a deserted beach’ I almost never see any except Eileen. Got back in time to see a spectacular Blue Angels practice with blue smoke and full afterburners right overhead. Had 2 Coors Lights at 33.2 degrees (this should always be measured with an IR thermometer). As always had TC255 admirers…30 ft Grady White couple with lots of questions (we attended the Miami Boat show for 10 years straight looking for the ‘perfect boat’ including that GW-30 but found it right here on the for sale column).
Another hats off to Bob Austin. My Garmin network sounder ($180) is always getting fouled and can only be put on the wrong (port/ventilating) side of the non-CR engine without some really weird wiring runs. Bob has previously posted basically that any depth-only transducer can be put in a baggie of water over a non-cored area of minimally-disturbed water and work…you don’t need the Garmin in-hull model. Tucked the spare in fresh water in a zip lock baggie between 2 baggies of sand just aft of the bilge pump and damned if it didn’t work fine. No fouling, no disturbed water mash.
The starboard Garmin fuel management GFS-10 is reporting that engine is only burning 3.5g/hour rather than the usual 6.2 or so at 4000RPM cruise. Unfortunately, the gas gauge does not confirm that. It’s a boat, so IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING.
On return, the inside temp was 92 degrees, but with the center window open, 2 big ice waters, and the aft door closed we were perfectly comfy. Even had to close the front window at times. Tropical boaters never believe this, but you just don’t need AC underway at over 5mph/displacement speeds even in August in Florida in a TC255 with a couple of Caframo fans, and ice water.
It just don’t git no better than this!
Happy Boating!
John

Pulling into Newcastle Marine Park in Nanaimo on Wednesday, we were delighted to see Two Bears with Chuck and Penny Raddon aboard
We spent the afternoon chatting and discussing cruising plans
They are heading across Georgia Strait as soon as that persistent wind drops

Thats no Joke at all about the air flow, I had my two front windows removed when I bought my boat and put them on a hindge across the top. If I had not done this the boat would be dreadful here in Fla, because a fan would only blow the hot air around in a sealed cabin which is fine in the Pacific NW but not in the sub tropics, my site has pics.
Just tried great new product for me "Star brite" White PTEF it's a snap & zipper lubricant.
It has the feel of chap stic and it restored my tent snaps & zippers to like new. My marina introduced me to it after I told them I'd used WD on my snaps. I found it on Amazon half price after I had used the entire tube. Oh and dont forget Elmers E450 Slide-All spray lube for our sliding windows.

Took a mini-cruise yesterday and today. Overnight in Gig Harbor where I was surprised to see a friend from the USCG Aux. classes. Gig Harbor is incredibly full of pleasure boats, It was a fishing town when I was growing up in the 40s and 50s. This AM a few hours in the southern Puget Sound before returning home. It has been very hot lately, and discovered I need a better fan that the one on my heater.

Today I parked my boat for the winter. Next week, oil change, lower unit gear oil change, Racor fuel filter, low press. filter, flush with salt-away and cover it up.

I really hate doing this so early but fall and winter are coming soon.

We're spending the weekend cleaning and organizing our boat in preparation and anticipation of spending a few days with old and new friends at the Mississippi River Gathering!
Dan & Peggy

I've replaced the rear of the pilot house, repaired around the front hatch. Today I was able to put the hand rails back on after cleaning them up on the sander last weekend. With a little luck I'll be out and about Clarence Strait this weekend deer hunting.

A recent post by JohnF had me considering a polished stainless anchor. We use our Tomcat exclusively for diving so we anchor three or four times each week. I painted our anchor neon yellow to make it more visible underwater. Today I replaced it with a shiny new polished model. I'll see how visible it is tomorrow.

Old anchor

I use it as a second harness on the deck. I had an anchor lock break on my last boat causing the anchor and chain to drop under the boat and go right into the Duoprops. It destroyed the outdrive and cracked the stern of my aluminum boat. A one foot section of rope would have saved me thousands of dollars.

Wow Phil...super cool pics with the line coming down in the water to the anchor. Look forward to seeing your next pics with the shiny anchor...
