SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

We I have been working on the relocation of my large battery for the windless and rewiring to make it the single house battery. Still trying to figure out how everything is wired. I have two start/house batteries in the rear of the boat. one starts the main and on the kicker. Both go to a three way switch for the house panel ( i think) .

I am moving the battery, big gel battery I got out of a floor buffer. about a 100 lbs, to the bottom of the closet from under the starboard side under the v berth. Between the battery, the windless and the 100 ft of chain I can not get the bow out of the water some times if I am low on fuel. If four people are in the cabin the its just impossible. These are all items I have added since I bought the boat. I hope that the movement of the battery and the 9 gallon extra water tank that will go next to the battery will work for moving my center of balance front to back.

Along with all this I want to make the big battery the sole battery for the windless, freezer ( adding that too) and all the house items. Radio, MSD, lights, etc. I just need to figure out how to have all three batteries charged off or either motor but not draw off or each other. I also need to hook up the third bank of my battery charger to the new house battery so it will charge while on shore power at home and the dock.

I need heavy cable, you cant even call it wire at this point, for the run from the battery to the windless switch. I just happen to have a lot of 1/2 think copper cable. I think it s 4/0? two ten foot runs weight about 15 lbs, its thick!!. I will post pics later.

I have to also plum in the second water tank and I had a great idea. I need a way to fill the tank in the closet with out adding a fill cap on the out side of the boat. I was thinking of just using the cap on the tank and run a hose into the closet every time I need to fill the tank ( which should not be often, this is just back up oh shot we ran out water. The pressured water line from the pump and current tank runs right by this new tank. so why not just tee in a short line to fill the new tank from the current tank?? Just fill the current tank, turn a valve at the tee and fill the new tank, then top off the current tank?? should work great and saves me a lot of work. The draw line will have to be ran from the new tank to the pump and tied in with a tee and a valve.

One other question for those that have been on board the 27. What do you think of repainting the inside dark wood white or some other light color?? Would latex inside paint work? We are getting tired of the darkness.

I prefer a lighter color interior. We went off-white to match the Mascoat insulation. Made the space feel newer, larger, cleaner, and definitely brighter.

Tom- on a much smaller scale, I painted the dark wood opening to the forward locker to match the ivory dash. I used a Rustoleum paint and Dotty and I are very pleased with the result. Do it, you wont be sorry.

So, today we took Lizzie out for the first time this year. The past year has been difficult with health problems. I was really saddened looking at the boat just sitting there on the trailer and knowing there was no way I could get out and use it. But, with modern technology and the great doctors and staff at the VA, suffice it to say no more cane and no more pain. It was a wonderful day on the boat. What more could a guy ask for?

So great to hear, Marty! We love you guys! Here is hoping for at least a few more oppotunities to boat together, although it will be a bit harder due to geographical constraints now we are in Whatcom County! Crabby Lou needs a little work too...

Today our ARB 50 quart freezer/fridge was delivered, along with our repaired Navman! It will be pretty routine I hope to reinstall the Navman, a little more difficult I think to figure out a permanent home for the ARB. We have some ideas, which will hopefully be in place before Lake Powell, but not likely in place before Pender Harbour. For that trip, the ARB will likely be on the cockpit!

Joan wants to be able to moor at a marina and turn the AC on right away. I have a window unit that I have lugged into the foredeck to supply AC into the forward window, but that is not satisfactory for her.
If making her happy(er) means that she will want to take more cruises in the warm weather months, I'll do what ever it takes to please her.
Guess what I am doing today???
Photos to follow...
Best regards,
Steve

marty that looks good. i am still thinking of doing it but in the middle of this wiring project right now. Just installed a VSR that I hope will keep the fridge from running down the starts batteries IF i forget to shout of the switchs.

Made a bracket for the dink outboard. My Suzuki 2.5 (nicknamed David) now lives in the cockpit by the cabin bulkhead, opposite side to where the door swings back. I copied this idea from Rock-C. I do not have a full canvas, just a sloper back, so this set-up works a treat. I'll get a picture next time I'm down at the boat with a camera.

Martin.

Yesterday Patty and I figured out where the ARB 50 quart freezer will live on Daydream. It will be under the galley on a slideout base that brings it out sideways to open the lid. It is quite a bit larger than Ray's 35 quart Engle, and just does not fit under the passenger seat. The circuits are already passing under the galley to where the Norcold fridge I pulled out a few days ago that used to be under the helm seat. The area under the helm seat will be converted to food storage.

Today I went to Sandy Point in Ferndale and picked up our Victron Battery Monitor from Mictotech, which amazingly is one of the few US Victron dealers. They mostly contract with the Navy and Coast Guard to supply all kinds of equipment, including huge inverters, controls and other stuff, but they sell retail as well. Jeff even made me three short cables with #4 cable, one to connect from the battery to the shunt, and two as jumpers for wiring the two house batteries in parallel - my existing jumpers were woefully undersized. The Victron will tell us amp hours in/our of our house batteriers (now fed by two 100 watt solar panels as well as the alternator on the Honda 150), current load, state of charge and voltage, all with high precision.

The Navman Fuel 3100 fuel meter is back from repair. Tomorrow I will pull the boat out into the driveway, get everything installed or reinstalled and tested, and make sure she is clean and looking good. On Thursday we will be headed out to Pender Harbour and Princess Louisa. Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

Replaced bearings and races in all four trailer hubs. The old ones looked great after clean up, but the grease was really oozy and bad. So, put new races bearings and seals in and some good marine grease. Using bearing buddies and have for decades.

New plugs, both engines oil and filters changed, new impeller starboard engine, in line fuel filters changed, new racor filter, fixed water intrusion into one trailer hub, cleaned bearings, replaced seal, installed new house batteries, installed bus bar to reduce crowding on positive anode of main house battery, rewired solar panel connections, (whew--more than one day's work)

So that took you up to lunch time. What did you do for the rest of the day?

Martin.

Out doing chores before lunch ???? I on a sunday can't seem to get any thing done before the NASCAR race is over.... but then retirement can do that to a person . No time frame to have to keep to . But the rest of the week I seem to be busy , makes me wonder how I ever had time to work at a real job????

A LOT done on the boat this weekend! We made a list and we accomplished it all! Install Victron battery monitor, check, done! Reinstall repaired Navman fuel monitor, check, done! Replace control arm on windlass, check, done! Put rode and new chain back on, check, done! Repair fiberglass step, check, done! Install slide out floor for ARB freezer/fridge, check, DONE! A little cleanup remains, but we are READY to fuel up and GO to Pender Harbor and Princess Louisa Inlet next Thursday!

Ordered a Garhauer davit a week and a half ago. Still no delivery. I was hoping to get it installed before the grandkids arrive, but I guess we will have to sweat the dinghy up to the cabin top the old way. The kids sure like to explore the side creeks and marsh areas in the dinghy.

I also ordered a set of SS disk brakes for the trailer. Drums that came on the trailer have been frozen up since purchase. Getting squared up for Powell trip in the fall.

Yeah I too ordered some stuff from Garhauer and have not gotten anything delivered yet , has been about 10-11 days. When I called to ask about my order was told yes it was shipped that day.... felt to me like the old check is in the mail..... :sad

Brought SleepyC home from Portland, OR. Was at Rodgers Marina for AP troubleshoot/repair/replace and the last is where it went. Now tgraveling with a new EVO-1 RayMarine Auto Pilot and it seems like it is working very well. (That's after about 2 hours of tracks, turns, waypoints, and go to's.) Looks like we are headed in the right direction now, ahh pun intended, and now I just need some time on the water, to get more familiar with the AP and the AIS.

Still unsure if Pender is going to work for me due to time constraints, and if not, I am sure going to miss it, but I will get a couple of days on the water one way or another.
