SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Friday launched the boat in Nanaimo, picked upa couple of friends then went for a Harbour cruise to the Dinghy Dock pub. Good food and good friends nice time. Heading back to the marina to drop them off, saw Ross And Christie on Pacific Wanderer coming down channel. Had a chat. They were overniting at Newcastle Marine Park so after dropping our friends. We went there also. We were the only boats in there Had a great visit, compared boats and lies and had a wonderful visit. Interesting differences and similarities. In the morning, after breaky launched the new dinghy for a trial row. Went fine. We said good bye to Ross, Christie and boat dog Coco as they were heading south, we were just off to the other end of the park to anchor in a small nook and try the new windlass. It works great. Then nap time. Later went back to the pub and overnited again at Newcastle. All systems go. Great little trip. Rain off and on some sunny bits. Looking for more. George

Glued up some storage box's for the galley, pics soon when the work is complete. Came up with a novel cover for the Wallas, hope you like it when I explain my idea.
Heavy waxed the trim tabs, hoping that will slow the little critters down from turning the tabs into their personal real estate. Coated the depth sounder transducer in baby diaper rash cream for the same reason. Thinking that if the cream is ok on a baby's bum, it ain't gonna harm my transducer.
Tomorrow is wash the hull and wax. Starting at 10am if anyone wants to help.

Martin.

She was getting juice - 12.33V/DC - so that wasn't an issue. But, when I'd hit the switch to turn it on, I'd get a draw-down on the electrical (e.g. lights dimming). So, I check the wiring - and it's getting juice (as I said). I removed the pump, opened up the pump, found the bottom red wire on the pump harness was shorting out from serious corrosion - kind of arc-welding itself and shorting out to the frame of pump. So, I ordered the recommended replacement [Jabsco 31395-0092 Marine ParMax 2.9 Water System Pump (2.9 GPM, 50-PSI, 12-Volt)]. The 4405-143 is rated @ 3.3GPM & the 31395-0093 is rated @ 2.9 GPM which is great. I looked at more expensive models, but I need to stay within a limited range since overpressure on the hot-water heater & other water fittings might not be conducive. So, life is good - I came, I saw & I found some work to do! Free shipping. Cost was $88.00 - not so bad.

A lot of washing and waxing went into getting ready this year. Replaced the boot (thanks to all who answered when I had no idea what it was called), replaced the lazaret hatches with the new ones that you all spoke about, now everything is dry back there. New VHF antenna that got snapped in half during a storm last year. Oil/plugs and more waxing, wiper blades. Somehow my trim tab hydraulic pump motor got fresh water in it and it seized up...removed and replaced. Painted the bottom. There aren't many C-Dorys around here in NYC, as a matter of fact I have one and have only ever seen one other, and that was in Ct. I get complements every day on it and many times when I arrive at the dock there are people admiring it, and these people actually own sailing yachts ! I got lucky the day I came across it. Well , it took a year but today I finally gave it a name. "Remembrance" is in Great Kills Harbor , Staten Island, NY. Thanks for all your help, I did a lot of reading on this site to get it done right. Keep it up. Mike B.

well, took Sensei out of the barn today and the Battery was dead as dead can be. OH WELL, 6 years on a blue top aint too Bad.
replaced the battery and washed off some of the bird Sh;&$#@ and then went to work changing her from fishing mode to shrimping mode. off came the downriggers and on went the pot puller.then went thru the shrinp pots and made sure the rats & mice had not eaten any holes in the netting.(another good reason for wire pots)then pulled all the line off the reel and checked it out. found one that was questionable and replaced it. (had quite a pile of rope when it was all off of the reel. 1500 ft total)then we made up some new bait cans and drilled a million(seemed like) holes in them.put brass snaps on them so that they hang in the pots.
fueled the boat and pot puller and made sure they started. then it was time to go in and have a cold one and contemplate tomorrow. it will not be a good day to shrimp. we have a outgoing tide at oppening time and it goes down to a 2.1 minus tide at arround 10:30. perhaps the slack low will provide some good full pots.

Tomorrow, I begin the installation of the Raymarine SmartPilot S1000 Wireless Autopilot system. My hydraulic system is the Baystar. Any one out there in C-Dory land using this system and care to comment on it?

Yesterday between rain spells, I washed the boat...and this morning I started to wax...and wax and wax... I used a cleaner first to clear any oxidation then put some really nice Colinite wax on ......I first tried it at Wefings and have been pleased with it ever since...amazing wax...

I will be heading down to the Delta early Monday morning to meet Sue and the dogs.... The Delta trip does not start until Wednesday but we need to outfit the boat.

See those attending there, with you'all could be there...

Friday loaded up the boat for a Lake Shasta trip, unfortunately a death in my friends family changed the plans so headed for the Delta, launched at Brannan Island. Cruised over to the boat berth area for the wifes first night on the boat, made her dinner on the Wallas. This am 30 knot winds, cooked a nice breakfast and then did a terrible job of bringing it into the dock headwind and a cross current at 5 knots, lets see how many tries did it take(several). Back home boat cleaned and put away for the next trip.

Uncovered the CD. Cleaned it up from the winter winds etc.
Hooked up the 200 hp Honda to water and fired it up. No water from the peehole. I tried every trick I knew to get it to work but nothing....... I think the impeller is shot and have an appt. next Fri. to have it fixed.
The motor is 10 yrs. old but only 300 hrs on it, all since 2009.
It set, new, in Fla. until I towed it to Alaska in 2009.
This was the 1st time that I used Salt-Away on it during last fall's maintenance.

Dropped Antibody into the Atlantic last Thursday. Headed out to "The Hook" (Cape Lookout Bight, NC). Fished the entire time until two hours ago, slept inside "The Hook" both nights. Seas (Thursday) 2'-3', (Friday) 3'-4', (Saturday; today) 5'-6'. Anchored in 40' & 20' and hit 7 shark - all lemons. No cobia. Ran out of #8 hooks; deciced to head back. Drug Antibody out. Caught plenty of sun. Water temperature ~72F @ 15'. Still about 2 weeks away from Cobia migration along NC coast.

Did a wash and wax all over so Kerri On will be purty for the Friday Harbor gathering. Looking forward to being in the San Juan's. Will launch on the 15th and go in to Roche to clear and overnite then Lopez then Friday.

It was an electronics weekend. I installed two Garmin GFS 10 fuel flow sensors along with an NMEA 2000 backbone so they integrate with my chartplotter (Garmin GPSMap 740s). I also installed a Standard Horizon GX2150 w/ AIS.

I then spent quite a bit of time configuring the chartplotter to make use of all the new information appropriately. I ended up with a nice chart screen with radar overlay, speed/depth/heading, AIS vessel info, port and stbd engine fuel flow rates, overall fuel economy, fuel remaining, and vessel range. It sounds much more cluttered than it really is. I wanted everything on one page to limit screen changes.

So far so good after a few hour test run yesterday.

We spent 8 days at Lake Powell ( 4/29 thru 5/6). We launched at Bullfrog Bay and made the 42 mile run, down lake to Oak Canyon. There we met Steve and Karen "Sea Spray" on their CD 22 cruiser. They were with friends from the SF Bay area on a house boat for two weeks. We found Bob and Marie "Thisaway" in the back of Oak Canyon. We had an enjoyable three day stay at Oak Canyon, hiking, fishing, visiting and eating. One night the house boat crew provided water taxi service and we all had a pot luck on the house boat.

Reluctantly we left "Thisaway" and went up lake to Paiute Canyon on the San Juan River for one night. The San Juan has limited camping and we were 20 miles upriver before finding a sandy beach. Next day we returned to the main lake and settled in Llewellyn Gulch for one night. Good camping with many sandy beaches. Next night found us in Iceberg Canyon. Also good beaches, but a popular destination, with much boat traffic. Next we went to Halls Crossing Marine for ice and ice cream, then further up lake to Moki Canyon. Another busy place, but there are a lot of good beaches. The last night we spent in a side canyon near the Halls Crossing Ferry site. The wind blew hard for a few hours overnight, but we weathered it well. It was a 5 mile run to the pump out and back to the Bullfrog ramp. We loaded the boat and cleaned it up and were back home by 3 PM. We only live 120 miles from the lake.

We traveled 179 miles on the trip and used 79 gallons of fuel. Most of the cruising was at 25 miles per hour. 2.27 MPG overall. The Stripers were spawning so I didn't troll for them much. The SM and LM Bass fishing was good, and I caught one large Walleye. The weather was great, most days in the 90's.

assorted washing, scrubbing inventory taking and a gear lube swap.
Also filled and syphoned dry the fresh water tank to flush out any leftover RV ani freeze. Three top ups and three syphons dry later got good tastin water, but for a little ( not an alatming) amount of black particles ,,not many, perhaps 20 or sp paticles in a glass of water...you think its worth another fill and drain or two, Or not>=?

Personally, we don't drink or make coffee etc w/ the on board water supply. We bring potable (bottled) water for that. On board water is for washing, showers, head etc only.

Same here Mark. A flat of water from Costco lasts a long time. That way we can keep the water in the tanks chlorinated a little bit more. With the extra tank, we're good for about 5-6 days of showers before refilling. (48 gallons)
