SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Finally got the Sue-C back in the water. It has been killing me seeing the cruiser sitting in the driveway these last few months. Friday night we trailered her up to Detroit Reservoir, east of salem oregon. Launched in freezing temperatures on saturday morning. Ran around the half full reservoir for a couple hours, fished without success (35 degree water). Just good to get back out on her. Put in the new Travasak and gave it a road test. Should work great this spring. Now to mount the Garmin 182C and the VHF and bring on the sunshine.

Well, I finally got around to working on my cracked lower unit (the one on the starboard engine, not a personal crack). Took the good unit off Bill and El's blown power head 40, rebuilt the water pump. Not a big job but found that the Honda place had sold me the wrong kit last fall and had to drive back to get a gasket and water seal. No problem though, they're only 20 minutes away.. I've got a shop manual and I should have read it closely, there are 5 (FIVE) bolts holding it on, not the obvious 4 :idea . After much banging and even chipping some of the cavitation plate (it already had a big chunk out of it (which is only cosmetic), I found the last bolt under the big zinc that counteracts the prop wash. No problems after that.

A little dicey to get it back up onto my engine while lying on my back but got it done. Now to hook the shift rod back up and test it....

I'll post a do it yourself album in the outboards forum along with pictures of the whole waterpump rebuild and .pdf files of the appropriate shop manual sections for those that would like to do it themselves too. The Honda 35/40/45/50 are all alike in this particular respect.

Need to pull the carbs and linkage for a gent in Alaska which I shall do tomorrow.

Once again, a big thank you to Bill and El on HALCYON for the engine, I feel like we're spreading it among the C-Brats Fleet and you'll be with us in a little way!! :love :love

If anyone needs any other parts, let me know, as I said Honda 35/40/45/50 are all common.

Soldered the data cable and hooked up the radio to the GPS. I am now receiving position information on the radio. Need to test the radios distress MMSI transmitter.

I finished sewing the new window covers for the new CatyMae (I'm not using the old ones I made for the old boat because I found better snap screws (all one piece) at West Marine -- the old snap heads used a separate screw and you had to screw it in just so tight to keep from spreading it and making the snap not work easily). After I found those at West Marine, the salesperson gave me the name of a place to get Sunbrella fabric at a great discount ($22/yard less 30%) in Portland...so I picked up a close match to the blue accent on the boat. Also, today, I picked up 3 extra plugs for the boat...paranoid after reading how many of you keep several spares on board :D

The guys are busy this week and probably next at Sportcraft doing the changing over of motors, electronics, windlass, rails, hopefully tossing that butt ugly wallas and installing our old one, and some other change-out stuff. I'm hoping we'll have been out on her at least once before the Cathlamet gathering so we can deal with any possible issues...I know B~C said he didn't wanna be rafted up to any sinker! :xnaughty

Can't WAIT!!

I would really like to see your pix on the water pump overhaul. I have the shop manual and will be starting that job on my 40's soon.

Hey Hey Hey
I finaly got the call. My boat is put back together and is flotable again. the Factory did a great job fixin Sensei's transom. I just rolled in from the 65 mile trip (each way) to the factory to bring her home. Boy, I really hate that Seattle traffic. it doesn't seem to matter what time of the day either.

Now the work begins putting everything back on her. I am going to have some aluminum fuel tanks made to replace the plastic ones that I had put in a year ago. I am not happy with the plastic tanks.

Roger -- great that you have your boat fixed up and back at home -- look out clams and crabs!

Charlie -- glad that the engine parts worked well for you. As you said, sorta like bits and pieces of us scattered throughout the C-Dory fleet, and that's great!

Roger, Just today Joe and I were talking about you and wondering if your boat was done. Really happy to read about the repairs being completed, that you made it safely through the Seattle traffic and the SENSEI is back home.

Other misc. news: We visited with Fred (ANITA MARIE) at Twin Bridges and spent a few minutes with Les at EQ Marine (noticed BESS-C in the yard).

I bought a pair of the black built in style 18 gallon tanks from WM and made some mounting brackets for them. I am not happy with them. to much distortion out in the open. I don't have the luxury of the full width motor well to put the tanks under on my 83. I think I am going to go with a large tank in the center .it will have to be custom made to fit under the narrow motor well and extend out about 4 inches into the cockpit.

Roger,

Finally got your boat home!! That's good to hear!

I am online here on the boat in Southern California on my new laptop computer using the PCS air card. I am getting broadband speed here in 'civilization'. :wink

We finally got our radar and autopilot installed and picked it up yesterday. We played for a few hours to get a feel for it. Now all we have to do it get the camperback on, which is scheduled for next month, and we'll have all the major additions done for now.

In the last week, however, we have found several things that will require warranty work, but by the sounds of it, Sportcraft is pretty busy. Not sure if we're willing to give up the boat for a couple weeks while they work on it.

Hi Roger - I was thinking your's was the 22 Cruiser. I didn't realize what you had. Now I just finished installing the the new factory 25 gallon tanks in the Far West III and have the old (7 year old) twin 18 gallon tanks, brackets, wiring and fuel gauge, all in virtually new condition sitting in my garage wondering what to do with them. These also will show the level of gas at night time with a flashlight held against the side.(the gray poly link factory originals) Nothing wrong with them, just wanted more gas capacity. If you (or any other C-Brat) could use them, I would move them on for postage! Such a deal. I dislike throwing away quality and useful stuff.

Well, we didn't get out this weekend, things conspired against us - probably next weekend. So tonight we just sat in the cockpit under the camperback in our Macabee chairs and enjoyed our sundowners, all in the glory of our Fall City driveway...

I finally installed the inverter in the boat to have 120 volt ac current when I'm off shore power. It's a 700 watt unit that will provide for starting surges of up to 1800 watts, and be just right for the small microwave which I also put on the boat.

Also installed a curved panoramic ski boat style mirror hanging down from the bottom of the electronics shelf. Think its going to be very useful. Low tech! No camera or monitor. Has almost 180 degree view from side to side and out stern. Trick is to get it close enough to your eyes, as the size of the image is directly proportional to the closeness to you. Right over the top of your head it's nearly 1:1, or full sized. Move it away very far, an the image size becomes so small it approaches being useless.

Joe.

Didn't do a darn thing with the boat this weekend, still in No VA trying to get this big house ready to sell. Me and 17 yr oild Grandson, loaded and moved 300 bags (3 Cu. Ft Hardwood) into a little trailer and spread them around the flower beds...

At about 50 pounds a bag that's about 7 1.2 Tons.... :cry Didn't hurt too much until I figured that out. Now we gotta rip them open and spread them around. 100 more bags await the same fate! Can't figure out where it alll goes, we do this every year....

Oh, well, this is the last time. Lots of "last time" jobs getting done. House goes on the market 1 May....
