SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Yesterday we launched in Everett at 0830 HRS to greet the USS Lincoln's arrival after their recent cruise (which included assisting the Tsunami victims). There were not as many vessels in the "greeting flotilla" as there were when the Lincoln returned from "war" but the enthusiasm still exiisted. Three of us went out, (a buddy of mine that recently retired from the Air Force, and Jessica, who I felt needed an "educational day" on the water), and ended up spending the whole day on the water. After viewing the arrival of the USS Lincoln, (we missed the USS Shoup arrival as it was already secured to the pier by 0830 HRS), we cruised down to Blake Island where we enjoyed lunch on "Sea Shift", did a brief "island walk about", then over to Elliot Bay, slipped into Bell Harbor Marina, then to the lower end of the locks, through Shilshole Marina and back up to Everett. :smiled

I dropped the boat off at the factory for its 100 hr service and new lager fuel tanks. Not nearly as fun as checking out the carrier coming in!

You may laugh - I am confident Anna Leigh David is RIGHT NOW planning where the 3 gallon soda keg and taps for the Snoqualmie Falls Copperhead Pale Ale will go on the new CD25s, his and mine!

Would that be a German lager you'll be shipping onboard? What will the tap arraingement be in the galley? hey hey

The 25 comes with both a 20 gallon water tank and a 6 gallon hot water tank. Seems to me that the 20 gallon tank could easily be converted to hold the beer. With a pump and a hose in the cockpit, you could even shoot a beer to adjacent boats at gatherings....

Finally finished up the refit and got the new "Baystar" hydraulic steering system installed. Judy helped get it charged up so we're now ready to head to Cathlamet. That is if I get the boat washed and waxed with all the gear loaded back aboard.

The boat is out of the shed and in the yard. That means it gets the hose next for an inside and out washdown. Today I changed the oil and filter, cleaned and reassembled the steering cable (hydraulics next year), and put the lower unit back on using the old water pump impeller. I have a new one to replace it, but I wanted to run the 130 with the flushing connection, so I saved the new impeller just in case. The big Honda fired right up, like always, and it ran good. I'll slap the new impeller in next chance I get.

The big plan (hope) is to put it in the water this coming Sunday. But if I find some more projects I can't live without, then the following weekend for launching will be fine. I just want to get a good cruise in before heading to Cathlamet.

I am really looking forward to this season. There was so much going haywire in the world last year that the whole season is a blur. I honestly can't remember what the new TyBoo is like for fishing (didn't do much last year) and cruising/camping (didn't do enough). Even the two week vacation in the SJs is missing from memory. So this will be like the first time ever using the new boat.

Spring has done sprung on the north Oregon coast.

I guess it must be an upper left edge thing cause I'm just behind TyBoo Mike. Got the Lynn Marie out from under the carport and into the driveway this afternoon for the annual spring cleaning before the season starts. Next stop will be Cathlamet for the springers and the start of boating season for us river dwellers.

See you all there,

Tim

Well, not technically "our" C-Dory - we transferred title two weeks ago - but we finally pulled her out of the C-Dory yard where the electrical issues with the windlass were (we hope) resolved, and delivered her to Shilshole for the new owners, who treated us to a nice dinner at Ray's Boathouse!

Lessee... I think I bought the most neglected CD ever. Fifth owner in four years. I put some wax on the hull stripe and Cabin top. Hit it with the buffer. WOW, It is actually BLUE. Now I have to do the rest of the hull. Put 2006 decals on. Last week a new PermaTrim. Haven't tried it yet. Just put a Solas 4 blade 10x7 prop on the 15 kicker. Should push real good now. Put small reflectors on the front of each trailer fender. When the side marker lights mounted on the frame lights up it should ilum what I need to see. The widest part of the trailer.

Those remote spot lights are out of my budget. I found a great $11 55-watt halagon work light. (looks almost like the factory cockpit light) Comes with 10' power cord with fused cig adapter. The mount has a good size adjustable magnet mount. Stick it where you need it. Clings great from below the claw anchor and is below line of sight from the helm so no glare at all. If I want to use the anchor the light sticks great to the top of the anchor deck pipe. Run wire thru deck pipe. If you don't need it pop it off and store it. Throws pretty descent light for cruise. Still have 2 million CP handheld for long distance illumination. Probable easier to track a target from a rocking moving boat with the handheld, too.

Also found a nice $14 fan. Switch has off, low and high. Can also oscillate. That should help with fogged windows and heat flow. Blows twice as strong as the $70 hella fan that came with the boat. Stuck a speaker magnet on the base. So I can set it where needed also. Will try it blowing across the wallas to the v-birth. Sometimes the cheapest stuff brings the most satisfaction.

Friday we put in at Everett. After the fog lifted (about 1PM), we cruised out past the carrier Abraham Lincoln and then over to Langley at full throttle. Water like glass, temp in the 60's. Up the hill for a slice of pizza and then home. Nice C-Dory day.

I moved C-Run to her new home at Foss Landing today. I think that this is going to work out very well. Launch on demand. They wash the boat and flush the engine after each use. They will set the boat on the trailer if I want to travel. They provide washing and waxing bunks outside. Plus an area where I can change oil etc. All for no extra fees. But, I don't think that I want to see her on the bunks inside the building. She will be on the top level, or the next level down. 58 feet off of the floor! I am sure it will be fine. I am sure it will be fine........

Almost feel like we have a new boat. Washed off a winters worth of scum and algae growth from being outside under the alders. Amazing what a little soap and water plus elbow grease will do.

I do feel somewhat guilty though since I didn't share. Four poor souls up north having boat withdrawls and I didn't even invite you all down to help putter around on our boat. Oh well, next time.

Patty here. You have NO idea!! Did you notice the weather today????? We're here at beautiful Birch Bay looking longingly at Patos Island from our deck (admittedly with a drink in our hands on our lounge chairs) and NO WAY TO GET THERE!

Yeah, me too on the boat washing. And washing, and washing.... I went over the whole thing with that Barkeepers Friend stuff. That cleans very good, but it also takes all the wax off. So tomorrow, if you all are really missing the boat chores, we can wax. And wax, and wax...

I also found out the boat is busted. The upper bolts and washers for the motor mount are sunk into the transom glass a ways, one more than the other. There are some cracks around the bad one, but no shattered glass. I'll be putting a plate of 3/8" stainless steel spanning the bolts to spread out the stress for this year. Next winter I think she'll go to the C-Dory factory for some repair. I've been wanting to take it there anyhow for a couple of gelcoat touchups, a good inspection, and maybe con them into redoing the bottom paint. It is supposedly new, but the surface prep was lousy and it is not staying on too well.

The weather was summer-like down here, too. At least 70º and sunny, sunny, sunny. Kay and my daughter took a whole bunch of grandkids and dogs to the beach. They all had a blast. And in the middle of March, it was actually too warm for the way they were dressed. Weird.

Hey Mike don't you love the 70º days. (ºBrockº). So what's with the Barkeepers Friend Stuff?? Up here we call that beer.

And I can identifiy with Patti Here. Man what yet another gorguois day.

And Tim, don't feel guilty. I didn't, knowing I didn't help you.

So how many days left before THE DAY OF BIG SMILES?

Well the radio install on the SusanE is complete, even if a little disappointting. every time I turn on the C-80 AM gets a fed back that clicks and whistles. fm is fine but who cares, I am a talk show guy. after that it was cleaning up the mess. I also installed a one way valve on the forward builge pump so it will not back flush a 1/4 of a gallon when it shuts off. while i was at it i rigged the back pump to a switch on the dash so it is now auto and manual. them more cleaning.
We also had a yard sale today. I have several 6 gallom tanks, a canoe, a auto oiler for a two stroke, a 1-2-both battery switch, and a drift boat. if any one here wants this stuff let me know , its cheap.

All right, all ready-- stop with the darn weather! We were stuck with another gloomy marine layer again.
Had the race committee, 6 guys, on the boat today (two of them well over 250#) to start the sail boat race.
Then we had our St. Paddys day party- corned beef, cabbage and grog.
