One of my co worker's son has been missing since Aug 8th. His boat was found abandoned outside Two Harbors. The family has pictures that were taken of him Aug.8th with three persons with heavy russian accents. The name of the russians boat is Solstice out of Kings Harbor Redondo Beach. The Sostice did not have CF numbers on the hull.
Here is a link to an article in The Log: www.thelog.com/news/newsview.asp?c=196518
Please keep your eyes open for the sail boat Sostace and report any sightings to the Los Angeles police dept.
Thank you.

The Article in The Log is inaccurate. His last know whereabouts was Two Harbors. Last contact was on the 7th of Aug. As flyers were being posted last weekend someone recognized him and sent the family pictures of him taken on the 8th of August.
The reason the pictures were taken was because russians(? (eastern european)) folks were said to be an obnoxious bunch and they wanted documentation.
I told the family I'd what I could.
The family is offering a $5,000.00 reward.

There is a Passport 456 (sailboat)--circa 1985 named Solstice with a home port of Redando Beach CA,
documented to
WILLIAM A BABINGTON
PORT ROYAL MARINA 555 HARBOR DR PO BOX 3481
REDONDO BEACH, CA 90277

Information above is from the Coast Guard documentation data base.

Dissapearance of persons is often so complex. I am sure we all hope that this missing person if found safe.

One thinks of Catalina as a safe place--but in about 1910 my grandfathers boat was stolen from "Deadman's Island" (now Terminal Island) and sailed to Santa Barbara where it was involved in robery, and then to two harbors, where there were assults and robbery--and then Avalon, with more crime--and caught by the Coast Guard on its way to Mexico.

Bob,
I don't know how you got that information but I will pass it on to the family. My understanding is that the sherriffs's office has either been slow with the investigation or reserved with releasing information as to their progress. At this time it is only a missing persons report since there is no physical evidence of foul play. That understanding comes from Scott's family members who are understandably frustrated.
Let's all hope for the best.
