I reserved a slip at Pleasant Harbor on Hood Canal clear back in January just for the shrimp season. May's gonna be a fishy month for me. I have 5 days shrimping in Hood Canal, a halibut trip on the 19th, and then a Springer trip on the 24th. I'll probably just waste my time going to in between those trips. :beer

Can't wait for late June when the ocean chinook season opens.

this will be our first year shrimping in our boat.I did it a lot with my buddy bryon in puget sound when i lived over there, and was planning on going back over there for a day but may just hit the canal instead it is a lot closer. either way been looking forward it..

sounds like a great month c-dawg.... must be rough :)

Yeah, it's tough... :beer

Most people take a week of vacation at a time, but I always spread mine out according to fishing opportunities, one day at a time. :)

If you shrimp the Canal, we set pots near Seal Rock by Brinnon. If you're out that way, give me a holler on the radio.

Salmon in Area 2 opens June 8, but you guys out that way (Area 4) get a few salmon days in May. What a cool opportunity to catch a halibut, lingcod, and salmon all in the same day.

Can't wait til may. I will shrimping the north end of area 8-2 near camano Island. We plan to stay the night before at either La conner or Langley. You can not drop pots until 7:30 so I plan to be on my spot at 730 for the first drop. I have not checked tides yet but will post back when I do. If any one is interested in meeting up the night before and then following us out that would be great.

I am hitting the area south of Lopez Island on the opener and I usually stay on the hook at Cornet Bay the night before or run to Lopez to Aleck Bay and stay there if my crew is with me.

The next day I plan to hit Area 6 since it is open 7 days a week. Can't wait, those tides are sweet the first weekend!

Yes I was just looking at the tide at lopez for the opener. Could not be better. Almost no current from 830 to 4pm. Any Idea of where in area 6 you plan to go? I think the big flat south of smith island looks like it would hold shrimp and halibut.

I have had some luck just SE of the East Lawson Reef buoy. Last year, just went out there and saw other buoys and did some prospecting and got lucky, but a buddy went out a couple days later and the spots I marked were not producing. It can be hit and miss.

I've also looked at the area around Smith Island on the chart and it looks good with some nice flat 300' areas.

During the Friday Harbor gathering I want to try up by Jones Island and I know you know that area pretty good. The tides that weekend are really good too. So maybe we can do a shrimping outing, Fred might be up for it, too. Fred, you out there?

I should be out for the area 8-2 days (Sat & Wed) and maybe one in Hood Canal.

It can be hit and miss.

Ain't that the truth. First season I tried it, we had our limit in 3 hours. Next season we fished all day, moved around and still didn't come near our limit.

sounds good I am following my wifes uncle out in his boat not sure where we will be at yet. I don't know the canal that well and wherever he has been going they have been having decent luck in years past. plan on doing a couple test drops in area 6 also just to see if i can find some...

Now that I figured out that halibut is opening may 2nd I just might go out then and stay a few days. Not sure if I should stay at port Townsend or up in the islands. Any thoughts??

This will be our first shrimping season and hoping to get out there several times season. Given that the costs of equipment is high (Electric Davit, Pots, Line, Bait, etc), we want to return a nice bounty.

Can anybody give some insight as to which areas near Seattle are best for Shrimping. Given that the windows of opportunity are so short, I want to give ourselves the best chance of getting our limits.

You can respond here or PM if you prefer.

I might take you up on that. We are docked in Everett.

ok looks like I will be out for halibut on wed, thurs, and friday. Then spend the night in la conner with the plan to shrimp Saturday morning off of camano island.

We dropped our first pot at exactly 0700 hours. 4 hours later we had our limit of 160. Shrimping was better than last year and so was the weather! Little bit of wind out of the north, but the sun was out and it warmed up nicely! 8) Gonna give it another try on Wednesday. We'll see...

Now to shell the little buggas....
