Shelves in place of the ice box in a 22'

I searched but can't seem to find pictures/advice on how to install shelving (ready-made if possible) in place of the ice box once removed in a 22' cruiser. Little help?

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff, the 22 came stock with a door and shelves where the reefer is located. Your toughest job is finding material like a door and the shelves in matching stock without paying an arm and a leg and your firstborn's lifetime earnings. Marine Decraguard ain't cheap!

My shelves were mounted at the factory with simple "L" brackets screwed into the sides of the "cavity" you see when you remove the refrigerator. The door is mounted just like any of the other doors in your C-22. SS hardware goes without saying.

Good luck. Heck you might just find a Brat who is removing the shelves and door to install a refrigerator. Make him/her an offer they can't refuse.

I plan on installing a shelf for my microwave along with a drawer. I'm not much of a finish-carpenter but a simple wood frame, laminated plywood panels, and a space-saving tambour-door kit sounds like a doable project. I assume C-Pelican has the wooden interior and not the all-white one.

Jeff,

On my '94 the factory installed a fairly large piece of the galley faux teak board over the water tank under the aft dinette seat. I used that (cut to size) to create a door for the space where the fridge lived. It's a perfect match to the rest of the galley (since it is the same material).

For shelves, I just used plywood -- but it looks OK. The door looks great.

I store life vests on the water tank so there is no need to replace the board. But, I suppose any piece of finished plywood would work over the water tank if support were needed.

I'd give it a look -- assuming your setup is similar.

Jeff,
I replaced the cooler with a drawer and cabinet. Didn't put shelves in as I preferred to use plastic organizers. You can find the thread in the Cabin Interior Forum; subject: " Helm Seat Cooler Remove & Replace". I think this link will take you there; http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t=13329.
Contact me if you would like details.

hi jeff,
easy project. check out my album and you'll see where i replaced the ice box with a shelf and microwave. the support for the shelf were installed measuring down from the top of cabinet. i cut several 2"x4" 's to length, then simply held them to the inside top of cabinet and the secured the cleats for shelves with screws.
hope this helps.
good luck
pat
