shakedown cruise and CG boarding

Today we finally had the time and the boat in shape to splash the new (to us) boat for the first time. Some may recall that this is the 1985 16 Angler that a fellow from Oregon had advertised on this site and inquired of our members about a suggested asking price. The boat had been sitting in a garage for appx. 20 years, still has the original Johnson 40, and had a nasty scrape along the keel. I bought her and had the bottom repaired, plus a few other minor upgrades I self-performed. I'm pleased to report the Johnson runs GREAT! Started right up. Popped the boat right up out of the water and onto a plane immediately. Ran flawlessly save for the expected exhaust smoke. I now plan to keep this motor and see no reason to repower any time soon. My Tohatsu 6 horse kicker also ran flawlessly, so I'm good to go trolling as well. (Kudos to Sorensen Marine in Seattle for excellent Tohatsu outboard setup and service) As we got to the Seattle waterfront we were approached by a coast guard patrol boat who requested permission to board. Everything went fine and the officers were absolutely professional. They even let us take some photos of the event, which I'll post a bit later. All in all a great first experience with our new baby. Happy boating! Mike. PS: I added a photo of the boat in my album.

Sounds like a good first "dunking", all in all. The boat ran great, the CG was professional and the weather was good from what I saw while working. Nice. 8) We put our brand new 25 in the water for the first time and had a fuel issue that left us w/ power to only 1500 rpm's. I'd take a CG boarding over that any day.

A month or so ago we were boarded by the CG right out of Shilshol by 4 of the nicest looking young men. They all could have been Chippendale dancers. Thought Kathy was gonna ask for a strip search, They being the ones to strip. Very nice young men

Steady EddY,

Our story is very close to yours and the boats are also the same color (blue).

In October 2009, we purchased an absolutely perfect 1990 16’ Angler in Idaho Falls that only had 146 total hours.

Same story the 40 Johnson started and ran flawlessly from the jump (and still does).

My question/s is about your “plus a few other minor upgrades”.

Since we live in Iowa and only see photographs of other (16’) C-Dory’s, I’m interested in knowing more about modifications others have made on their 16’s.

Should this question be a new thread?

Regards,

Ron, Connie, Bear & Dolly Fisher
