If any of our fellow brats will be up that way or passing through please let us know. Its always nice to see another cdory and crew.

Lori and I are planning to attend the Bellingham and Nanaimo CBGTs, and do Princess Louis the week in between. After Nanaimo we are heading up to Desolation Sound, then to the Broughtons. We plan to be gone until approximately the end of August. So hopefully we will see you along the way! We are already planning to connect with several Brats as well as an Anacortes Yacht Club cruise in the Broughtons. Anyone else planning to go north after Nanaimo?

Warren

Warren,

Right on! We will probably do the Nanimo CBGT then trailer N. to Port McNeill. We'll be in the Broughtons from then till Aug 31 or so. Looking forward to seeing you there and cruising together. Grumpy and Happy should be there then too.

Caryn and I are planning a Desolation Sound trip around the last week of August. Anyone have suggestions on where to launch and park the boat and trailer in or around Campbell River?

Peter, I intend to aim for Discovery Harbour (page 26 & 27 Waggoners). We will launch nearby in the afternoon and depart the next morning after shopping and finding secure and not overpriced parking. I will have more information by the 11th of August. All I can recommend for now is get your ferry res booked soon.
Sorry we will miss you.

For those going to Campbell River, BC, I have some photos of the launch ramp at Discovery Harbor in an album HERE

Here is the first photo.

My visit there and the photos are from 2004. I suggest a phone call for current info.

We were very happy with Salmon Point Resort for launching and parking for our Desolation Sound cruise in 2005. It is maybe 10 miles south of Campbell River, and a short run over to Desolation. The only downside is that the entrance to the marina is a bit (an understatement perhaps) tidally influenced. But it is a good protected launch, the rates were reasonable for parking, and there is ample parking in a large grassy field at the resort.

I second Salmon Point Resort. Good facilities. That little cut into the marina is a little iffy though. And the harbormaster freely gives honest advice on local fishing. Hard to beat.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Yeah, I'll be sure to make my reservations right away as soon as we decide on solid dates this weekend.

Peter

Larry and others, thanks for the advice. We may check out that resort. The new boating guide says things have changed much since 2004. I will give a report and post some pic's when I return. Good info is a must.

Hi Steve and Kath,

I had about 30 mins to kill so I enjoyed pulling up this older post and reading all the great advice about cruising in my back yard. No way can they visit all these places in 16 days thinks me, so I started wondering where exactly will they go? The tension mounts as I near the end of the post! Then I reach the end, and nothing :o
Was there an outcome? Did the trip take place? Where did you go?

As you can see, maybe I have too much time on my hands. But if it is raining outside and I am stuck indoors, I would rather be reading C-Brats than 'Honey Do's'.

Martin.

speaking of hear a outcome. did you get your motor running?

Hi Tom,

Yes I did. Drained off the water in the fuel tanks. Flushed the lines from the tanks to the engines, changed the fuel/water separator, flushed the carbs through 3 times with fresh fuel, and away I go.

What an adventure. :)

Martin.
