secure parking for truck and trailer

We're new to C-Dory cruising, but have many years (65) of sailboat cruising under our keel. We're plannig a trip with a starting point somewhere between Kingston, ON and Oswego, NY beginning in mid-May. The plan is to do a loop from Oswego to Kingston via the Oswego, Erie, Hudson, Champlain, Richileau, St. Lawrence, Ottawa and Rideau Waterways. We're looking for a secure spot to park our truck and trailer for the duration of the trip. A month to six weeks seems to be a logical time period. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We are located in L'Anse, MI on the central south shore of Lake Superior. We can offer FREE parking for many rigs and trailers. It is an easy 4 miles to a launch ramp with transportation to and from when we are home, which is most of the summer. Traffic is bad....you might encounter one vehicle on the paved road to the ramp. We welcome you to a great summer cruising area. One of the standard lines for our piece of geography is that we have two seasons......shoveling and swatting. Don't let it scare you off.

We left vehicles for a week and Seneca Lake State Park others have done the same for months and no reports of problems. Used to be about six dollars period. You can run the canal that runs in between Seneca Lake and Cayuga Lake that runs right up to the Erie Canal not to far to the east on the Erie Canal you can pickup the Oswego Canal to run up to Lake Ontario. We liked the town of Seneca Falls which is located on the canal in between Seneca Lake and Lake Cayuga it is a very pretty area. Seneca Lake State Park is at the northern tip of Seneca Lake near the town of Geneva New York.

As a "local yokel," I can recommend Seneca Lake SP. It has an entry gate, and is patrolled. There is a marina at the Park, so there are boaters in residence...and typically a number of trucks and trailers parked.

Six of us left our rigs at Cedar Point State park for a week cruise across Lake Ontario to Kingston and up the Rideau to Ottawa. The park is about 10 miles SE of Clayton, NY. Plenty of parking and a gated entrance with ramp and slips. Clayton has a wooden cruiser museum and there is a town ramp but not much for parking.

Last year we kept our truck and trailer in Kingston at a gated storage facility. Paid a monthly fee that was fairly cheap. We then took the train back to Ottawa where we had launched our boat.

we are keeping our boat at Seneca Lake this season and it is a great place.

You might also look at Pirates Cove Marina on the Erie. It's much closer to the Oswego Canal, a couple miles versus an all day trip from Seneca. They had non-ethanol gas last year, restaurant, etc. There is a travel lift launch. A cement ramp also but not too good a one.

Rich,
When you say you are keeping your boat at Seneca Lake...are you referring to the state park there?
I called Seneca Lake State Park and asked about their 'free' parking and they advised they were in the process of reviewing the 'free' status and may soon decide to charge up to $8 per day. I plan to call back soon to see if they have decided on a 2012 policy.
