Can someone educate me about seat pedestals and seat mounts?

I'm looking for a pedestal that adjusts for height, and a seat mount that swivels and adjusts fore and aft. I would like a mount that permits a limit in swivel (like zero degrees to the right and 270 degrees to the left, to avoid cabin obstacles).

I'm looking at Todd and Garelick hardware, in the $75 to $125 area typically, but I'm also seeing mounts for $3,000!!!

With the affordable seat mounts, I'm seeing "manual" and "automatic"...I'm assuming the automatic means spring-assisted.

Are all 9" pedestal bases interchangeable? Like, is the bolt circle and spacing equal betweeen brands?

My goal is to have a modest helm seat that can accomodate a 6'6" guy (me) as well as a 5'3" first mate...

seat mounts : designed to extend the support of your roll cage to the back of your seat. Mounting brackets are available for bolt on or weld on installations.
 
With regard to bolt circles both in the seat and on the mount, usually there are several hole patterns in the seat and in the mount that will allow you to mount most any seat on any mount.

Good question to ask the mfr however just to make sure.
