Search for the dolly

Maybe someone out there can help me. I am trying to find a hitch type dolly. Seen the add in a magazine back some time ago.
It will not pop up on google using any term or discription I can think of. It is a dual tire rig with the tow ball on top and couples up to the hitch on my pickup. It takes the hitch weight off the truck. ( I have a 5 ft extension ). I keep getting info on car dollies, and hitches of every thing except what I want.
There must be a name for it or for the company that makes them.
I remember it as a stout looking outfit.

I could draw a picture of it , but it is hard to explain. I sent inquiries to a hitch company but have not heard back.
Any ideas?

I just did a google search with the term - hitch dolly - and several relevant items came up in the first few links (I'm guessing you might be using the MS search engine). Anyway here's two.

This one is a 24V battery driven device that will do the work for you and which can move fairly heavy trailers (on flat paved surfaces)

This one is a manual one that can only support 600lbs of tongue weight. I don't think you can move an R25 by hand with one of these but you might be much stronger than I.

Are either of these what you were looking for?

I don't think that's what he has in mind, Roger. In my rush to beat Joe to this I found a link to the previous discussion on trailer dollies, and a nifty picture, but after posting I read all of Captd's message. Luckily, I got my post deleted before Joe saw it. Looks like he gets to win again.

Yep - after reading his post more carefully, I'm sure you're right (on both counts).

I think he wants a Hitch Buddy.

Sorry Guys, I didn't do as well with my search as you all did.....all I found were "Blow Up Dollys"........eeeeeeehaaaaaa :smilep

I ran across some solutions when I was looking up about wieghts and lengths towing behind the RV. The Hitch Buddy, is mostly designed for the 5th wheel hitch of a specific type of RV. The 5th wheel hitches ride on the truck bed--the hitch buddy frees up the bed, so that other items can be carried. I saw some other similar devices made for trailer hitches. I'll see if I can find these threads.

It would not be at all difficult to have a custom trailer builder make a two wheel dolly which would work. But, remember that you now have a doulbe articulating hitch--going foreward it will probably be fine, just like a normal tow dolly. but going backward it can be a real problem (documented on the RV threads). I would suggest that you put a class IV or V trailer hitch on the front of the truck for launching. This solves a number of problems when backing--including the long overhand/tongue lever arm.

I suspect that it would only be a couple of thousand dollars at the most to have one custom built. In fact it would not even have to be galvanized--just use square tube steel, a torson axel (probably be narrower than the trailer) and tongue.

Here is one I found: the Robin Trailer Toad--@$2705

May be the same: http://www.trailertoad.com/ @ $2999

You are 100% correct, Bob. On all accounts. The Buddy is for 5th wheel or goose necks. The toad is what I was looking for. The price was what I was thinking it was, which is about half the Buddy.
Thanks you guys. I had been looking for a couple of days and had a Friend in the RV business trying as well. It will be fun to explain how the C-Brats did it in Hours after I posted the question.

Just curious -- what is the difference (and why such a difference in cost) between the Hitch Buddy and the Toad? They look pretty similar to me.

Sounds like something overheard in a bar as closing time approaches.
