Sea lions 1. Orca 0.

Wow! That was impressive. Stellars are not an easy prey for the transient Orcas, but this isn't how it usually turns out. They put up a heck of a fight. First I've seen a group of Stellars come to the aid of one.

Right place, right time.
 
Where is the "rescue" part of it? Maybe a bit of anthropomorphism going on? Are we to believe that his buddies showed up to rescue Charlie? "We got your back, bro." Or maybe his buddies were using diversionary tactics? Maybe there were feints and flanks that I couldn't see?

The sea lions that showed up seemed to hug the shoreline, a common tactic when Orca are in the area. If they threw one a life ring, I missed it. Not that there can't be altruistic sea lions, but I'd need to see some evidence.

While looking for this I found other videos where the ending was quite the opposite. One said the pod killed and ate three of them that day. Those Stellars are huge. But Orca are "huger". :wink:
 
Young orca to an old one: "Hey pops let's zip over there and
nail a couple of those sea lions for lunch."

Old orca to young orca: "We'll just cruise over and nail'em all."
