Hi, next summer I want to take a trip from Haines to Juneau and maybe over near Sitka. Does anyone have any recomendations on when the best time would be to make the trip considering sea conditions and rain? Thanks
 
June, July and August can all be pretty good but depends on what the weather is doing at the moment. Last summer basically sucked, with a lot of weather days but still plenty enough good days to get places if you had the patience. We are planning our longer jaunts from mid June on. Last year, some of the best cruising we had was over labor day and one of the worst days was July 4th, albeit surrounded by some very nice days. How much time do you have to be down here?
 
I think the Douglas Hemingway Book says May is usually the driest month but higher chance of stronger storm. We plan on passing by Haines from Skagway sometime during the last few days of May also eventually headed toward Sitka and beyond.

I will be taking 2 weeks for the trip. I tried to do it in a week the year before last but after the weather stuck us in Haines for a few days we didn't have the time and ended up just staying around Haines.
 
We are planning a trip from Cornet Bay to Skagway leaving shortly after the 4th of July and returning around the 10th of August.

My trip is from June 15th to July 15 on and around Prince of Wales. I'll be moving my 16 on the ferrys from PR to Ketchikan. Ketchikan to Hollis. I'm hoping for more good weather than bad. I will expect rain.
 
Our experience in cruising se Alaska suggests one important reminder: patience! The weather does change. Of course, this adage is good anywhere on a boat -- and in life, too, eh?

Patience---agree wholeheartedly with you in theory find it very difficult in practical application. Really feel lack of it is the top thing that could get us into serious trouble someday. I think the only thing that might save us is retirement only 3 years away. Always want to pack to much adventure into our limited vacation time. Maybe this year with 6 weeks we can scale back---relax and enjoy more. We are definitely planning on more of that 6 mph cruising. Hope we can hold to it.

We've been keeping up with and enjoying your continuing travels. Extra special was your Grandson's "Four on a boat" I think He may actually know just how fortunate He is.

If the Halcyon is down there with you in Colorado and outside it must be under a lot of snow. Most all the storms predicted for us in Wyoming ended up going south your way.
