Rule 1100 Question

Greetings Brats,

Sometimes my Rule 1100 bilge pump will sit there and run totally submerged and not pump. Its like its cavitating or something. Eventually it will pick up the water and pump it out, but it may run for 5 minutes. Other times it pumps immediately and vacates the water.

I checked the impeller and it all looks good. Is it the nature of the beast or am I doing something wrong. I do have a check valve in the line, but it did it even before I put that in.

Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.

I've had that problem and it's was the one way check valve that get stuck. I finally just chucked, it as the hose goes over the gas tank and there is no way water is doing to run back up thru the exit hole unless i'm already under water.

I'll second the motion ;remove the check valve :o , it does wonders for pumping the bilge dry in seconds. Mine did the same thing. No issues like that since deep sixing the check valve.

I just replace the starboard Rule Mate 1100 on our boat. Besides the cracked housing I found a debris screen located in the basket and it was fully blocked. Beware the new Rule 1100A basket is a different shape. The new pump will not snap into the old basket. On the Tomcat it was a real task mounting the new pump. I had to install the round access hatches in the aft end of the fish boxes. You also need to test the new 1100 by putting your finger on the test spot on the pump. I did not see a check valve any where.

I have replaced the port 1100 on my TC255 and found out that the new pump will not work on the old basket... Now the stbd one will not work on automatic but only on manual. Will either fix or replace.

Am replacing the smaller access hatches with the biggest that will fit and moving the overboards up from the waterline to about 15" higher for both the bilge pumps and the fishbox macerators. Have not replaced the check valves in these hoses but I could and will if they present a problem.
