Rubber floor mat guidance

I have some 1/4" heavy duty rubber matting that I salvaged from a high school track. I have been thinking about cutting it to size and putting it on the back floor of my 22 cruiser. I have not noticed too many c-dorys in all the albums here that have used the same kind of matting. Is this because it is hard to dry out everything beneath them? I know if I used the floor matting with the holes drying would not be an issue, but I don't like all the fish guts and seaweed that gets down in it. Would there be any issues if I used the matting I have?

I have mat like that in the bed of my pickup. Works great there. In the boat, cockpit and cabin hallway, I have a product called "Dri-Deck". It keeps me off the floor surface, allows water to go through easily and dries easily.

What ever you put down there you do not want it to slip, and you do want it to drain and breath so it will dry. (otherwise you git some version of mold, mildew or some other obnoxious residue).

I used "Dri Deck" under a matting which was thicker than 1/4". Even with holes in a matting, you have to clean and dry the hull underneath. The dry deck alone was tough on bare feet, the mat gave a better surface.

But whatever you do, be sure it is easy to take out, clean under and dry. Cut it to fit the entire cockpit area.
 
We were recently trying to use Kiwi tile but had some trouble sourcing it this time so I ordered up a box of drideck. We used it under a layered sandwich of plastic-foam-carpet in the cockpit but we keep ours covered and dry for cruising use. The dri-deck type product really helps manage any water that gets in and allows for the deck to mostly dry without removing the flooring every trip.

I should have said my Dri-Deck in the cockpit is not covered with anything. It does get softer when in the direct sun/heat. The cabin hallway has a carpet over the D-Deck so the bare feet are comfy.

I got a couple of floor mats from HD for the cockpit. They are rubber with tufting on the top. They are comfortable on the feet, but can get wet. They can get damp underneath. When they do we just drape them over the side or put them on the roof for a little while to dry out. They were about $10 ea and it took two to cover the cockpit floor (had to do some cutting of the mats).
 
Dri Deck does seem to get softer with age. We have it on the TC24 and it has held up well. It is nice that when fishing, the gunk does not end up in the cabin as much. It is also not as harsh on the feet when it becomes worn in.

We have not found a good cockpit flooring solution for the 255 due to the fishboxes in the cockpit floor which we need to access semi regularly.
 
We put in a product called Deckadence. I have been very happy with the product and I believe there was another member here who put it in their 22. It is not on the cheap side, but it is comfortable on the feet and keeps the dogs from sliding around.
