Rod Holder Installation

I prefer the removable ones (Scotty or others) for ease of install, you can put on numerous bases and move them around, easy to add an additional base later on and you can fine tune the angles and direction of each of them. Also, you don't have to cut big holes in the boat. If you need to move one, a couple screw holes are a fairly easy repair.
A lot of downriggers have pole holder attachments on them making for a nice clean install.
I have 10 bases and 5 holders on a 22 in addition to the 2 on my Cannons. As far as do's and don'ts: "Cut or screw into your hydraulic lines or electric comes to mind". (It's a don't) :lol: All those holders and we may never have another salmon season around here.

The CD I just purchased has 3 of those big rail mounted chrome, adjustable, expensive rod holders and so far they are a giant PITA. I bought another ($120) so I had 4 and it is of a different brand and it is a little better but not much.
My suggestion is the same as the previous post...........Scotty holders with many bases mounted in various positions around the cockpit. Ther Fishon holders are ok also but I prefer Scotty brand which I had on my previous CD.

I like the Scotty Rod Holders and bases too. One word of caution. Plan carefully where you want to install them (unless you install them on a rail) because otherwise, you'll have four holes you'll have to fill if you decide you don't like where you installed it. I know because I spent several hours a couple of weeks ago filling holes and sanding for that very reason. Oh well, I got good experience working with gelcoat...

I use Big Jon downriggers. I have three bases mounted on boat, port, starboard and stern admidships (on a well supported shelf). The rod holders can be used with the downriggers in place or without for other trolling. I use three rod holders on each side and two on the stern. When not mounted just the low swiveling bases are left in place. The two bases on the sides are at the ideal location to hang a fender so they are useful even when not fishing. On the 25 you have railings the 22 doesn't have so YMMV, but removability seems like a good idea to me.
