Road buckling and closure near Page, AZ

Arizona DOT has issued a news release (link below) about a road buckling that has closed a section of 89 just south of Page, AZ. I figured this might be of interest to C-Brats who may be traveling to Powell, or who are just interested in general. I've only been to Powell once (so far!) and I came in from the north to Bullfrog, so I'm not sure of the routes people generally use to get to Page/Wahweap, but I know it's a common entry point to the lake.

Excerpted text:
"...the cause is not related to weather and may be a geologic event....ADOT crews are on scene and are deploying geotechnical engineers to investigate. It is not known at this time how long the road will be closed."

Wow, that's quite a hole!

Isn't it? Especially when you see the scale with the human in the second photo.

From the eyes of a third party observer......probably not a wise place to be walking/standing......

Thanks Sunbeam! We are planning on Lake Powell first week in march. Like next week. They can fill that hole by then....betcha a nickle. Maybe not huh? So detour east or detour west? Thanks again good to know, we'll keep a lookout. George and Carolyn

So we get major snow in Lake Montezuma, and a earth event up near Page. I think another sundowner is in order while I ponder.

Tickets to Maui? Store the boat? Or Kerri On?

We"ll Kerri On keep you posted. :thup

That one looks like it may take a bit longer, doesn't it  Glad the info is proving useful as you "Kerri-On" :thup

PS: I don't know if you get PM notifications or not, but I sent you one just now to ask a question about the bimini side panels you mentioned in another thread. Just thought I'd mention it since we were both here in the thread.

WOW, that would not be something one would want to find pulling a trailer in the dark.

Thanks Sunbeam. Good notice.

Just wish I was headed that way soon.
