I'm planning on cruising from Kingston, Ontario to Ottawa,Ontario, this year and was wondering if any member has been on the Rideau canal system or has any local knowledge about marinas and campgrounds.
If you're going to tow over this far why not Trent-Severn? Really neat railroad lock over the Escarpment near Georgian Bay.
There are cruising guides to both. A Google search should turn up a couple. We see them at the local West Marine sometimes. A popular long tour is to "circumnavigate" Ontario thru the rivers to Georgian Bay, then down Lakes Huron, Erie, and Ontario.
Thanks for the input, I have just been notified that Blue Water Books & Charts at 1-800-942-2583 in Fla. has information on both Canadian waterways. I'll check this out in May. Rich
The boat is currently stored in Olympia, Wash. Planning on cruising the local islands, then on to Coeur D' Alene Lake, then eastward towards your area in Aug. or Sept of this year. - Rich
I'm presently having a special Bimini made with full screen sides so I won't have to worry about all those pesty bugs & black flies, it will also extend over the motors so the inside should stay a little drier. Rich
Check the Halcyon Days website. We have cruised the Rideau and the Trent Severn and their is information on the site. You can also click on the Halcyon Days link on the left side of the C-Brats pages and it will take you to the link.
The Rideau is an especially beautiful cruise and we heartily recommend it!
