Repower

I would like to update my current engine (75hp Yamaha 2005) to a 115hp Yamaha. My dealer is saying to order now for next summer install.
The issue I have is my maximum capacity sticker says the boat is rated for a 100 hp. Raven Dancer is a 2006 HT. I have read that some brats have put the 115hp on their 22’ boats. I don’t want to have an issue with my insurance company so I guess I need to know how you legally get around US Coastguard maximum capacity decal ?
Thank you

Just take the decal off they are not required for boats over 21 feet. The factory just left mine off and mounted a Suzuki df115.

The decal gives a recommendation for the power on the CD 22. It's not the max, not the min, but a recommendation - one not set in stone. But, it's a pretty good one for about 75% of users because 90 hp moves a moderately loaded boat really well and up to around 25-30 mph. The folks that run really heavy are going to need more than that to get on step and cruise into the mid 20s without running full throttle and needlessly burning through a ton of fuel. Some parts/service/sales departments may say they won't put more power than recommended, and I respect that, but somebody will. You'll hear this and that about liability, but it has been my understanding it is up to the captain's discretion on boats over 21 feet. Shop around :-)

As far as your insurance company, they will try to get out of anything and everything. That you can count on.

Well after some investigation it looks like JKidd is correct in that boats longer then 20’ the maximum capacity decal is not a requirement, so after I hear back from C-Dory I will remove the decal and head down to Sportcraft and get a 115 Yamaha on the way.
Thanks all
Dave
