Repower 25 Cruiser: 150 hp to 200 hp performance question

Has anyone repowered from a 10+ year old 4 cylinder 150 hp to a new 6 cylinder 200 hp outboard? I’m considering this option, but I’d like to know how this change impacts fuel economy. Did your range/tank significantly decrease? If so, can you plane at a lower speed to recapture previous range/tank if needed?
 
The new 200 Hp outboards are getting 200 hp out of 4cylinder engines almost same weight as the older 150hp Suzuki and Yamaha have 200hp 4cyl Mercury has had a 200 Hp 4cylinder in supercharged Verado engines There are a few c brats that have upped their game with these new 200hp engines
 
Our new Suzuki 4 cylinder 200 hp is close to a 3 liter displacement and weighs only a few more pounds than the 2004 Honda 135 it replaced. It is very quiet and efficient and will push our very loaded CD 25 at well over 30 mph.
 
Here is another guy very pleased with the Suzuki DF200, which is an I4. I went from an older Honda 130 hp to the Suzuki 200 hp at about the same weight, and the difference is amazing! More speed, more throttle response, more power to climb swells, and better fuel economy.

The V6 200 hp motors are about a hundred pounds heavier than the inline 4.

On calm water with minimal current my old CD25 hit 42 mph, which is way too fast for the hull. It was pretty squirrelly. It can cruise easily at 30 mph at ~5000 rpm, and I usually run at 20 mph at 4500 rpm.

You will not be sorry with the added hp regardless of your motor choice. There are lots of them out there, so continue the research.
 
My recollection is that Tom on Sea Otter felt that his "mileage" was equal or better than the smaller engines. If I lost the 150 I have now, I would get one of the light 200's--and not worry about the mileage. My guess is that my boat would get better mileage at 20 to 25 mph.
 
Mike do you have any fuel burn numbers? I’d be curious.
 
My '07 Suzuki 150 was a great engine with no problems. I got 2 mpg out of it.

My '17 Yamaha 200 is a great engine with no problems. I get 3 mpg out of it and cruise about 4-5 mph faster with less rpm's.

I like the 200!
 
Yowzers....at $500 Canadian pesos to fill a tank right now a 200hp Yami sounds great. Would love to get up to 30 on flat calm days. Too bad a new trailer is higher on the priority list.

Did you guys also upgrade your barnacle and kicker at the same time?

I consistently cruise my fairly loaded CD25 with my Yamaha F200XCA at 4100 RPM and get 26 MPH (even with light chop); I go to 3600 RPM in rougher waters and get 20 MPH. At those RPMs I get 2.5 to 2.9 MPG, and even more if lightly loaded. That's with a 4 blade 15" pitch prop.

I can do 30 or even 35 MPH if I go to the higher 4000s RPM, but I don't like the way the boat handles at 30 MPH and above. If I remember correctly, I did push it to 40+ MPH once on flat water.

P.S. I'd rather have a 13" pitch prop trading some of that MPH for power at a given RPM; altho I have plenty of power as it is, I just don't need the speed.
