Replacing the C.Dory stencils on my 1990 22' Cruiser

Replacing the C.Dory Stencils on my 1990 22 Cruiser was no easy task. I have owned the Doolittle since July 11, 1990 when I picked her up shining new at the old C Dory Fabrication & Sales facility in Des Moines, WA. Over the years I have kept her is tip top shape but unfortunately wear and tear have taken their toll on the C Dory logos. I removed the logo on the port side and was amazed at how much of the boat shell had been removed from over 25 years of waxing and polishing off annual oxidation levels. Where the logo used to reside, it is actually slightly raised and at the right angle you can make out the word C DORY in the gel coat.

I decided to contact the current plant up in Bellingham, WA and get them to send me some new stencils. Dianna, my contact, was very helpful and sent me the stencils within a few weeks. The price was not cheap but it is what it is. When I received the new stencils The font was the same but the letters were substantially smaller and would not overlay the area where I had removed the old ones. When I called her and told her my dilemma, she told me they do not have the template for the old logo anymore but that I could contact their supplier, " TNT Signs and Production" out of Ferndale, WA and they could possibly make custom stencils for me.

I called the number and worked with Ted Denessen. I still had a good logo on the Starboard side of the Doolittle so he had me take a photo of it and gave him the dimensions of the lettering. The new (old style) stencils arrived yesterday and they are spot on perfect and his price with shipping was less than I had paid the factory. So if your logo is looking a little worse for wear, contact TNT Signs and talk to Ted. He has my template for the 1990 and older models and can get you some new stencils.

Doolittle, Good job. It pays to be persistent. When I got my boat it did not have the C-Dory emblems on it. I too, contacted the factory and had a replacement "decal" supplied. Different mfg, different prices and service but same result.

When you are saying "stencil" are you actually meaning a "decal" that sticks onto the boat versus something you use to paint over?

Thanks for bringing this back to mind.
