Repairing Showa trim tilt unit on my Suzuki DF50

These are Showa trim tilt units that are sold with Suzuki motors. Mine were in occasional seasonal use since 2007.+

One of my Suzi's stopped trimming and tilting. In taking it apart, I found that the large O ring that goes between the hydraulics drive electric motor and the base was badly weathered. I looked at the starboard engine electric motor as well and it's O ring is also badly weathered though that side is working.

Upon taking the defective tilt drive motor apart, it was clear that there was lots of condensation and water leakage inside that had rusted away the motor brush springs. That was the primary reason for the failure to tilt. Other corrosion is present as well, but the motor is repairable with new springs and brushes and O rings.

NOTE: these are 300 hours motors all in fresh water.

I'm going to do the other trim tilt motor proactively before it is all grunged up if it isn't already.

Just thought I'd post so you'd have a chance to check those O rings on your tilt motors and be proactive in replacement before you get stuck with a motor that can't go up and down. Mine had to be manually tilted up last summer after a Powell trip. It was very heavy.
