Removing corrosion from chrome hardware.

Does any one here know of a good way of Removing corrosion from chrome hardware. It looks kind of like bluish green mold and is really hard and brittle. If you scratch it with your finger nails it kind of flakes off like a powder. This stuff is growing on my door handle hardware and the cabinet hardware. Not sure but the hardware may be polished stainless, though unlikely.

One of the best metal cleaners is the 3-M magic metal cleaning cloth
that West Marine sells. I took out some decent pitting in the SS
helm wheel with it. Powerboat Reports, I believe, rated it the best
metal cleaner.

White vinegar works well on stainless. I used it to clean rust stains on a used bow roller. The rust dissolved away and the stainless shined as if it had been polished.

Interesting stuff. It is also one of the best glass cleaners (use newspaper
to clean with). I'll have to try this. I have a good amount of corrosion
on the table leg.
