Recommendation for lodging in Ferndale area

We are going to be in the Ferndale Wa. area having bottom paint put on Discovery before we head on to the Broughtons. We drop the boat off at the C-Dory factory on June 1st and will hopefully pick it up on June 6th. We would appreciate any recommendations for an inexpensive motel in the area. We aren't really fussy but some of us have an extreme fear of bedbugs!!! We actually considered camping at Birch Bay State Park but realized we don't have room to bring camping equipment along with all the boat stuff. Internet search of the Ferndale area doesn't provide much info. We would appreciate any local knowledge.

Thanks
Brent and Dixie

me, too and check the mattress after check in

Bedbugs found to carry drug-resistant bacteria
Canadian researchers report that bedbugs found o
n three patients hospitalized in Vancouver carried two kinds of antibiotic-resistant bacteria: MRSA and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE). The patients were residents of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, an impoverished neighborhood, the researchers wrote in a letter today in Emerging Infectious Diseases. Hypothesizing that the bedbugs might carry resistant pathogens, the authors collected five of the bugs and tested them. They found that two bedbugs from two patients carried VRE, while three bedbugs, all from the same patient, carried MRSA. There is no clear evidence that bedbugs spread disease, the letter says. But bedbug infestations are common in Downtown Eastside, and MRSA is also a substantial problem there. "These insects may act as a hidden environmental reservoir for MRSA and may promote the spread of MRSA in impoverished and overcrowded communities," the authors write. "Further studies are needed to characterize the association between S aureus and bedbugs."

Eeewwwwwwwwww! :disgust

We had to stay in a motel recently while returning to Texas. It was decent, but it sure wasn't like being in the RV or the boat. Little Izzy wasn't happy with it. We decided to do the last 1,000 miles driving straight through. Tired when we got home, but we got to sleep in our own bed. We have definitely gotten spoiled by having "home" with us wherever we go.

Brent and Dixie, have you checked with the factory to see if they have someplace they recommend? Oh, and Izzy wants to know if Rusty is going along?

Best wishes,
Jim

I don't know much about lodging in Ferndale, but the Best Western Lakeway in Bellingham is a nice enough place. Standard Best Western motel. And, I would much rather stay in Bellingham than Ferndale [just a short drive on the freeway]. There are many good restaurants in Bellingham, as well as good nightlife and nice parks along the waterfront.

Hot Darn!!! After only traveling in our motorhome for past several years, we are now trapped in a La Quinta in Houston and will spent the next several days in various motels as we work our way to Kent to take delivery of the new Willie's Tug. I have not been able to sleep without feeling things crawling all over me. THANKS GUYS.

I give Jake two kinds of Flea meds prophylactically. He is sleeping like a log.....I may have to take some of his flea pills.

You can check the mattress piping.

Bed bugs are active mainly at night. During the daytime, they prefer to hide close to where people sleep. Their flattened bodies enable them to fit into tiny crevices — especially those associated with mattresses, box springs, bed frames and headboards. Bed bugs do not have nests like ants or bees, but do tend to congregate in habitual hiding places. Characteristically, these areas are marked by dark spotting and staining, which is the dried excrement of the bugs. Also present will be eggs and eggshells, the brownish molted skins of maturing nymphs and the bugs themselves. Another telltale though less frequent sign is rusty or reddish blood smears on bed sheets or mattresses from crushing an engorged bed bug. Heavy infestations may have a “buggy” smell, but the odor is seldom apparent and should not be relied upon for detection.

C-Brats, Thanks for the info on lodging, and for the caution on bed bugs.

Jim, Rusty will be staying home, having an extended sleep-over at his mothers house. He's a good traveler and completely house broken, but needs more room to run than just the boat.

Pat and Patty, Thanks we will contact you regarding the Crab Palace.
