From a pilot's standpoint this is awesome. No power - no go-around...
It makes you feel like you are really there.

Subject: Shuttle Landing From the Cockpit: This lo-res 8.5MB (6min45sec) video looks through the HUD (Heads Up Display) on Atlantis's flight deck. You'll hear flight deck audio of three astronauts interacting. The video starts at about FL830 (83,000 ft), mach 2.5 velocity at 1.1 Gs. You'll hear the term HAC (Heading Alignment Cylinder) used a lot. It's the shuttle's version of a traffic pattern to line up with the runway centerline. It is a circular instead of rectangular pattern. Landing is a team sport, as you'll see.

Clicked your link and was "forbidden" to view. Your description sounds fascinating and sorry we couldn't see it.

and I thought it was just me. Damn "no fly' list.

I got the same thing. Copy the URL address then open another Explorer window (or whatever you got), paste the URL and execute.

What an awesome video, first I've seen from inside the cockpit. Thanks Charlie.

Thanks for the tip, Steve... NICE! Really nice cockpit resource management and cooperation; friendly, but professional. Very impressive. :thup

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Sweeet! Sort of makes backing into a slip at 1-1.5 knots look do-able! :beer :thup :smiled

Thanks!

thanks
outstanding

Link was fine just took several seconds for the video to begin.

I used to fly those type of approaches in to Palm Springs when I was a Captain on the 737, except we had power just in case for a go around.
