Rear deck light and thru hull

Hi there.

I'm looking to mount one light to point onto my rear deck. Does anyone have pics of there deck lights and of the wiring just looking for mounting and wiring ideas. Also does anyone know what brand and size the stainless thru hulls are from the factory to the bilge pump. Lastly the wires that run to the interior lights have some kind of white covers or sheath over then inside my c dory. Does anyone know what this is called or where I can buy it

Thanks

I used Techflex brand "Flexo PET" for the cabin wiring in my boat. I've heard it called many things, usually cable sleeving or braided cable sleeving. There are other manufacturers. Depending on where you live you might be able to find it locally at electrical supply houses or places that sell electronic components. Here in Asheville I was only able to locate it in black so I ended up ordering mine on Amazon to get it in white. It is available in many sizes and colors.

On my Angler the deck lights are attached to the rear of the top rails. Most boats with a radar arch have the deck lights attached to the arch. I built this rocket launcher arch after the deck lights were installed.

i got by with one LED light clamped to arch. MIght suggest 2 lights for a bigger boat. I wired a toggle switch to the dash and snaked a wire thru arch More pictures in my album Page 6

I have an older 22 which had a stern light over the door which I replaced with a led light and a switch.

I changed my nav. lights to side and a 360° white.

We got 4" of new snow and still snowing so no picture,

I dont have a arch i was thinking to mount one light in the center of the roof.

On several of our boats, we put a 3 LED light (West Marine--don't have a part number--this is about 2" wide, about 1/2" high and 5/8" deep. It has a screw hole on each end. I made a wedge so that when the light is screwed into the aft bulk head, over the door and below the roof overhang, that the light shines into the cockpit, into the engine well and actually onto the dock or beach aft of the boat. I ran 3 wires to the position where this was run. One for the positive to this light, and one to a similar LED light in red, mounted on the inside of the cabin. The 3rd wire was ground for both LED's. The switches for these lights were put on the side of the console, so it was also easily reached from the bunk, as well as from the helm position.

The vinyl coated 3 wire bundle was run alongside the factory wiring, and head by either plastic clips, or wire ties.

The problem with lights on the radar arch, is that the beam from these are obscured from lighting the cockpit when the Bimini is up, or the camper back is in use. I want light in the cockpit-if the Bimini is up. When on the Radar arch, you do have more light aft, can make it brighter, and can put light to the sides.

My philosophy is "You can never have too much lighting, since you can always use the switches and turn some of it off".

And while you're back there electrifying and lighting things up, why not add a spotlight, too?

One switch turns on all three lights, but the spotlight also has its own intergal switch, so can be turned off when not needed. It also comes off and can be hand-held and directed.

Just be sure to up-size the wiring to handle the total load!

I mounted mine in a similar location to what Bob describes and for the same reasons. Also, since I had a bait cutting table centered on the stern, having the light slightly offset from center allowed it to shine over my shoulder while cutting bait. I also put rope light under the gunnels. The rope light was good for indirect lighting (better for eyesight in the dark) and was nice "mood lighting" at the dock. If I were to do it all over again, I'd use LED's for both the rope light and the spreader light. Here's a picture of the deck light.

My cockpit light is the same as the one in the above photo. It is mounted on the cabin top, centered over the door and switched at the helm. It will eventually be changed to an LED, flood type, and be about 1 watt instead of 55 watts. I am planning a future lighting update, but it is on hold for now.

I'll have to take a picture, thought i had one in album, we attached ours onto the rocket launcher. I had my buddy make mine for me so he welded on tabs to bolt lights too while he was making it. Ill take a pic tonight. it is wired both at the helm and the cockpit toggles. the lights we use are led and almost too bright to have on if someone is following me. but night fishing or solo it lights up a good 10' behind the boat.

I like the handles above the door sea wolf.
