Razor Clam Digging

All,

Just did my first ever day of razor clamming. Don't know how I've lived here 12+ years and never went clamming before... It was a GREAT day for clamming. Drove over to Ocean City beach and met up with two other couples. The sun was out and the low tide was at about 3:20PM. Didn't even have to get up early to get there in time. The husband of a colleague of mine gave me instruction and served as an eagle-eye scout for clam dimples. We all had our limits by about 3PM. A beer or two in the sun on the beach and then back home. After cleaning everything up, I fried up the first 4 with a corn meal coating. Four clams was all the two of us could eat - these babies are big! Anyway, it was great fun and good exercise.

Clam digging is great fun if you have nice weather and early tides. We've been out there in the rainy darkness with the wind howling in years past...not as enjoyable but still fun...We hit Long Beach yesterday and found poor diggins....I feel a field trip is in order this afternoon :)

I took my brother Razor claming yesterday as well. We were only 5 shy of our limit which I think was above average. They were not showing very well.
It is a good thing to know there is a mnus tide before you head to the beach or you might be wading in your street shoes abnd wearing your brand new dress pants from your birthday and clamming with borowed clam guns

Good luck out there... today and tomorrow should be good tides.
We found a spit that was less traveled. Maybe that made the difference. Good luck.

Razor clams are plentiful here in Soldotna Ak. About 30 min from my house you can get your limit (40-60) in about 20 min if you have a clam gun. How big are the ones down there? They average 8-10 inches long here. They make great clam chowder!
