Hello C-Brats;
I'm heading to Porland to cruise the Columbia River for a few days and somehow I have ended up with more guests than can sleep on the boat.
Would someone with local knowledge guide me to a location where I can launch the boat, tie for a few nights and have a hotel within reasonable driving range?
Thank You
Pedro

You might check the St. Helens marina for moorage, including use of the float on the small island nearby, which is a River Trail boat in campsite. Though outside the core of PDX proper, lesser moorage rates and avoidance of PDX traffic tieups may make St Helens an attractive choice. Some very tasty cruising on the Columbia, either up or down, from there.

Naturally, lodging in St Helens is cheaper than in PDX, as well. Hit the Chamber site for lodging options.

If you want to be right in the thick of things city-wise, look for something on Hayden Island. You can cruise the Willamette, Multnomah Channel, as well as the Columbia.

Downtown Portland is on the Willamette, and there's some decent free city moorage there close to a lot of sight seeing and shopping. The Willy is a cool little cruise all the way to the falls.

Fred's on the Willamette Channel used to be a place to launch and get a slip. I haven't been there in years. It's close to Portland, but out of the rat race.

Scappoose Bay Marina is another option.

There is no public ramp or public dock on Hayden Island. There is a public dock downtown (Riverplace - 3 day limit) and a public ramp a short distance south at Willamette Park. St Helens would be a good suggestion but be advised it is almost 30 river miles to downtown PDX from there. Fred's (503-286-5537) is well located but really doesn't have a great nearby lodging selection.
