For those owners who have the 110 yanmar on their R-25, I would like to ask the following questions.

.. Does the boat feel underpowered?

.. What are you fuel burns?

.. Noise level?

.. Overall impression and satisfaction with the Yanmar.

.. Ease of maintenance.
 
We've got the 110 Yanmar, and have 590 hours on it.

When the boat is heavily loaded (we add a ton of stuff when cruising for a couple of weeks), we were able to run at ~ 10kts at 2800-2900 rpm. (Red line is 3300). Lightly loaded, we run at 11-12 kts. And burn about 4.5 gph

With the latest diesel cost, we've changed to cruising at 1600-1800 rpm - about 6.0-6.5 kts at 1 gph. The cruising range is terrific.

I understand the Cummins can go quite a bit faster, and is a little quieter, but I've never been out on one so I can tell for sure. They have the fuel flow meters as part of the engine install, so you should be able to get real numbers from someone who has one.


The reliability of the Yanmar in marine applications is great. They are pretty simple, spend a few bucks so you can change the oil yourself frequently and that's about all the maintenance.

Yanmar isn't the best with customer service, but at least the parts are available.

I have only 90 hours on my 110. I have had several boats with diesels, Ford Lehman, Detroit.....so noise does not bother me...I don't really find the Yanmar offensive on noise anyway.
Except for the rare need to get somewhere a bit faster, i cruise at 1800, about 6.5 kts....with very low fuel consumption...I do push it up to 2500 for a few minutes each hour.
I have had no engine problems at all so far.

I run a lot of Yanmar 110's (though not on the R25) and they have been extremely reliable. On the boats I run there is very little sound proofing and as a result the engines are quite noisy. I think the last engine was changed at about 13,000 hours but I would have to double check the exact figure. These are boats run year round.
