Quick Columbia River Cruises

Hey Ray, my electronics are back at the Raymarine factory getting fixed or replaced. When I get them back in a few weeks I'm planning on some cruising/fishing. Not sure I can keep up with you now that you've got that hotrod Suzuki powerplant.

Crabbing sounds fun...I gots to wait a few weeks before I have time to partake in any boating fun. Classes wrapping up, sports, chores, my list of excuses is long and agonizing.
How are you hauling your boat down? is it legal to tow a C-Dory with something other than a Dodge? :)

As long as I stay out of Washington I think I'm safe ;)
At least my checkbook will be. But that's cause the wife holds on to it tightly anytime I am within 100 miles of Englunds Marine  .

Mr Fisherman
Lets go! I'm planning a trip to Garibaldi for crab on Friday and Sat. the 28th & 29th. Would like to check out the mighty Columbia, got to be some crabes in there. What date are you thinking about?

Mr. Fisherman et al, Regarding Quick C.R. Cruises, I want to share recent unfortunate experiences I've had. Since '89 I've launched Adeline @ Marine Park for overnighters. Never had a problem leaving my rig there multiple nights. However, once in Feb. and again last week it was broken into and prowled. Damage done. Items taken. I need to find a new ramp from which to launch. Would fellow C-Brats share their experiences @ the C.R. ramps they use? Thanks, Pete [/b]

Sorry to hear about your break in problems.... ARRRG....some people. I've launced at Ridgfield if I'm not overnighting, don't try it durring salmon season as there is no parking to speak of. If we're overnighting we launch at Kalama and have had no problems

I have used the launch at Camas-Washougl for years and never had a problem or even heard of any problems there. It has two ramps with docks and good parking. It is just off hwy14 between Camas and Washougl.

HI all, Thanks for your thoughts. I have used Kalama w/o a problem, but it's a drive. Nice for springer fishing though. Ridgefield is closer but does'nt allow overnighting. I guess it's either the Gleason Ramp(River Patrol) or Camas/Wash.. I honestly can't remember the last time I went out for a day cruise, so this is a big issue for me. Aside from the security aspect, alot of ramps are day-use only and some, such as Squalicum(Bellingham), have time limits for parking. Maybe this is a subject that deserves it's own thread, "secure ramps w/ long term parking" or something like that. Regards, Pete

Folks, sorry fer not checking in sooner.
I didn't like the 50 knot South wind forecast so I stayed home.

I really need to get out. I don't think
I can get through the Christmas shopping season without a lil boat time.

I have not taken any overnight trips except the Cathlamet trip. I really liked Cathlamette and I will be back there again.

In this area I have been warned about Freds Marina and the St. Johns bridge ramp. I would be hard pressed to feel safe about parking my rig at those spots due to the amount of negative reports I have received. I like the Scapoose ramp but I don't know if they allow overnight parking. I use the ramps on Suavie Island but I know they do not allow overnight parking so those are out.

I have parked overnight in the Garabaldi parking lot without issue as well as Warrenton and South Beach Marina and Depoe Bay. I think sooner or later bad luck will find your parked rig. It is best to not leave anything of value in plain sight and have a good alarm system. I have found, however, that these things only help keep honest people honest and if a criminal is making his living stealing your stuff your stuff is going away. I have had more breakins in front of my house than anywhere else. So I guess you should park somewhere besides in front of my house...

Terry, did you mke it? How did you do?
Drop me an email or a PM and we can get together.
I am thinking about an overnight trip this week.
I really need to get out.
Let me know.

Anybody else up for a possible overnight trip?

Mr.Fish
Ya I chickened out myself.
I called a friend in Garibaldi, he said it was blowin 60 and the rain was comin down sideways. I've got an itch to get out on the boat. You got any plan for the near future? Weather premitting I could do an overnighter, ( no heat in the cabin).
I'm not set up for fishing but I'd like to catch some of those Columbia river Crabs.

You said you stayed at Cathlamet. Is Jim Mast :sad still the harbor master there? I keep a sail boat moored there a few years back. Cathlamet is a great destination, maybe we can put together a gathering there next summer.

Terry -

Yeah, you bet. A few of us do a Cathlamet trip or two every year. Usually one in the spring when the salmon are supposedly running, and one or two others later just for the fun of it. It's less than two hours upstream from me here in Warrenton, and about the same downstream for B~C. Helen O will just be able to walk down to the dock. Cheers will be there, one way or another. Same with Sea Lion. Last year we had Scorpion, Laurna Jo, Far West II, Primative, Sea Lion, Blue~C, Lynn Marie, TyBoo, and maybe a couple others all in there at once. Durn near filled the place up, but there would have been room for you and a few more, no problem.
