question to 22' cruiser owners re: a head?

If they could figure out a way to make an enclosed head space, even for a port-potti, even at the expense of counter space, on the CD-22, sales would soar. That is the single major reason I could not buy one. The ladies want privacy and I just find it difficult to sleep with my head over the head....

The modification some ppl have made with a cushion over the recessed sink/stove, ought to give enough room for that.

Porta vs. marine: I had an old houseboat whose previous owners took out the marine head/tank and put in a porta-potti. On the lakes around here, the few pumpouts have odd hours and often long lines. I could just wheel the porta-potty (on one of those folding carts) on down to the shower/head facilities and hose the whole thing off and start anew at any time, day or nite.

The portable, composting toilets are large, but would solve some problems, but once you are resigned to just dumping your own, the costs and complexity go way way down. John

If the head under the v-berth bothers you that much, what you need to do is to put the PortaPotti on a slide out platform under the helm seat where the "useless" ice box is. Add some roll down cabin shades, and a small hot water heater for good measure. Lost storage space in the ice box area is replaced by storage space under the v-berth. Haven't checked the measurements, but sounds feasible at least.

Now Don will probably "invent" a convertible helm/head contraption where you can "go as you go"! Joe.

Hi,

I just had to add my two cents worth. Have 15 years exp. with heads. All kinds! The porta-pot is sure the best bang for the buck. If you trailer take it home and dump into your sewer clean-out or your bath room head. On the water you can dump at many marinas and on the Erie Canal we use the outdoor portajohns at each lock. If you keep your boat in a slip at a marina just take the bottom home with you, clean it out an bring it back the next trip.

I sure would not want to give up any storage space on the 22 for a holding tank.

I am sure you figured this out but at night you slide the toilet into the cabin and you have a very large bathroom!
