So, what about it guys anybody else proud to be an American and living in America? Have a nice 4th. :wink
Mike

Well, you asked...

I am definitely proud of much of what America has done in the past and hope and assume that I can be proud of what it does in the future. The present and recent past, I'm not too proud of. I look forward to the day when all of the constitution and basic human rights for all (including prisoners) are again respected by the highest leaders in the land.

However, one thing I think we can both agree on is that one of the things that makes this country great is that we can all openly express our opinions. Happy 4th to all.

Roger,

I enjoyed your post, and concur with your thinking. I am a former Marine Gunnery Sergeant, Vietnam veteran, and pretty patriotic. However, I find the actions of the current administration disappointing beyond words. Let's send our thoughts and prayers out to the young Marines, Soldiers, Sailers and Airmen now serving in places of danger that they return home safe and sound, and very very soon.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful 4th of July. Take time to celebrate and be thankful for this great nation of ours.

Kind Regards,

Steve

And a great 4th to all. The kids are in the C Dory in front of the house pulling crab pots, it's flat calm, the sun is out - life is great.

War is never popular - been in too many, starting in WWII. Some times ya just gotta do what ya gotta do. And of course I respect other opinions  -

I can't wait for the day that the term "Politically correct" (and correctness) and everything it represents fades from our vocabulary. It seems to do more harm than good.

Hopefully we will get a handle on what an illegal immigrant is and just what does illegal mean? To me: If you are here illegally and I know it? You have to GO! AND qualify for NOTHING! Benifits should be reserved for citizens only. Why are we so soft on the bad guys? Ever notice we can't secure our countries borders, but we spend a lot of time and money securing other countries borders?

I hope English will be the language in this country in the future...

The U.S.A. is still the greatest country in the world but the future sure does look cloudy.

Enjoy your independence, this day and every day!

I too am proud to be an American, lucky to be born in the USA!
In the face of adversity, we become a UNITED STATE. Don't tread on U.S.

Enjoy your 4th of July,

JT

Roger and Steve
Thank you for your posts. I too am a vet and agree with you both. I have traveled to alot of places in my time in the service, and still belive that there is no greater country than this one.

Happy Fourth to you all. I'm a Vietnam Vet and am proud to be an American, even when Im not so proud of our leaders.

Sorry but I think this thread is a very bad idea and a very slippery slope. Lets enjoy our boats, share information, make new friends. Lets not bring the polarization and animosity "onboard".

Alright. So I blew my top! My point being......this is a web site about C-Dorys, boating in general. There are better places to bring up your "personal opinions" that will offend and anger others.
I should have copied the example of my good friend Brock, who would never do or say anything that might be offensive.
My apologies to the group.
Terry

Very well stated, Terry. A friend of Brock is a friend of mine :thup :thup

My views are totally different, but this just isn't the place. Lose, lose situation and solves absolutely nothing.

Love the C-Dory (and I saw some crab jump in the boat), and love our site.

Today is a birthday pure and simple. All Americans should be able to celebrate this simple fact for one single day. We have all the rest of the year to bring up the other stuff. I would think people should be able to put aside the other stuff for at least one day.

I agree, the original question was really simple guys. Besides your suppose to wait till after dark if you want to shoot firecrackers. Human nature always amuses me but sometimes it is dissapointing as well.
Mike

:) I am a Canadian, living in the United States, married to a man who I think is a great American(he drinks Guinness but I won't fault him). He happens to share this great birthday. So, Happy Birthday America and Happy Birthday Rick! :cake :cake

On July 2, 2007 my wife and I attended the burial of my first cousin, at Arlington National Cemetery. A retired Colonel, Infantry, he landed at Normandy, fought his way through France, Belgium and Germany, and ended the war in Czechoslovakia, the country of his parent's birth. He subsequently served combat tours in Korea and Vietnam. During his career he received, among other awards, The Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Belgian Croix de Guerre, and the Legion of Merit. At his burial there was an army band, a company of soldiers, a three gun salute. His flag draped coffin rode on a caisson followed by a riderless horse. As the service was proceeding I remembered when I was a small boy of 7 or eight during WWII. I told my father of a dream I had that the Germans had won the war and they were coming down Main St. of our small mining town and pulling the Jews from their little stores and executing them in the street. My father, who came to America in steerage to escape religious persecution, took me on his lap and told me, "You cousin and his buddies will protect us". And so they did. Happy fourth of July.

Mike – I agree with you and I salute all the men and women that have served in our armed forces and those currently in the services that are protecting this great country and defending the right of all to express their opinions freely. Even those that want to destroy this great country.

I especially salute those that have made the ultamate sacrifice for this country.

Thank you and God bless America.
