Prop size for a 22 Angler with a DF90

Hi,

I decided to change the old Johnson 70 for a DF90. I am trying to find out the proper prop size for the 22 Angler. After reading the posts in the Propellers forum it is not clear which prop will be the best fit. It seems that fellow C-Brats are using from 13 to 20 pitch in a 22 powered with a 90HP.

I am going to get a SS prop since the bottom in this area is generally mud and the chances of hitting something hard are slim. The boat will generally be loaded on the light side.

Is the DF90 a Suzuki engine if it is ,We had a 90 hp Suzuki the 2litre one same block as the 115hp we put a S/S 14by 18 pitch it was perfect 35-36 mph and 4-5 mpg also revved up to 5800rpm

If on the other hand its a newer suzuki 90 small block 1.6 litre you might need a smaller pitch .The suzuki has a bigger gear case then honda or yamaha .
WE now have a CC-23 with a yamaha f-115 and we use a 13by 15pitch S/S prop we can rev up to 5500rpm and about 32 mph top end about 4-5mpg
 
What prop did you end up with and how's the WOT RPM?
I am setting up a new Suzuki 90A on my C Dory 22, and the 14 X 18 prop seems too big.

The dealer end up recommending the 14x18 prop. At WOT it runs at 5900 RPM and 34mph. That is in the lower range of the WOT. I have a spare 13.75 x 15 aluminum prop that gives me the full WOT and 32mph with light load, with heavy load it would only reach 29mph and it feels like it is trying harder to push the boat.

I cruise with the 14x18 at 4500 RPM at 25mph. The SMIS gauge reads 4.5-5mpg. I am ok with that so I decided on that prop.

If you have the option of trying both props, do that with your normal load so you can get a feeling of which one will fit better.

You are welcome. The 5400 RPM reading is with the engine trimmed all the way down? 5400 WOT RPM is what I get with the engine trimmed all the way down. When I trim it up I get the max WOT.

I'll take it out tomorrow and try the trim adjustment, then I'm hauling out for the 20 Hr. break-in service. I really like this motor, the fuel economy is excellent and the 75 lb. savings over the older DF90 are impressive! My stern floats an inch higher.
