Priness Cove - Wallace Island - stern tie?

I am thinking about heading over to this park and staying the night. They have rings for stern tie. This is a procedure I have only done a couple of times and always with more than just me on board. I have dropped the hook and motored backward toward the shore then held position while someone has rowed ashore with the stern line. No problem.

This time I will be single handing. I don't want to have the boat swinging around while I man the dinghy and do the rowing. Any suggestions much appreciated. Has anyone actual experience of this location? The rings are supposedly in the rock. Can you back right to reaching the rings?

Thanks.

I think this is Pirate's Cove? I've only been there once (years ago) and we anchored (didn't know about the rings, but also we were the only ones there).

Will be interesting to read what experienced single handers recommend. There is probably some slick way. Otherwise, you could perhaps anchor by the bow and then when that is settled, row your own stern tie ashore (while the boat hangs on the hook)?

Don't worry about a stern tie in Princess Cove. Lots of room esp. this time of year. Drop the hook toward the back in the shallows and enjoy. Done it lots. I've only stern tied three times since May in BC as in my opinion it's usually not required for us. Just go way in where no one else is and dump the hook. Great spot is Princess

Princess Cove is different than Pirates Cove which is on De Courcy Island. I have done a stern by myself but it was in a place where I didn't have to worry about drift while setting the stern tie.

Another option if you have a secondary anchor is dropping it off the stern while you go ashore.

This is true, not a lot of boats out here even on this beautiful sunny weekend.

I realized I didn't really adress your question. To stern tie solo, anchor 90 degress to the wall, backing toward the place you want to end up anchored allowing for 2 or 3 to 1 scope. Be sure the ring is in a spot you can actually scale. Some rings in marine parks are unattainable by mere humans. Billy goats maybe. Cleat off being sure you're within reach of your hopefully doubled stern tie (200 ft) minimum so you loop thru the ring and return aboard. So you can leave without going ashore. Row in toward the shore allowing your boat to lie as it will, assuming you anchored clear of others. Once your line is thru the shore eye return aboard and pull your boat till your anchor line is again snug where you originally backed too. No fuss no muss. You'll be the envy of others! Use a hi viz floating line to avoid issues with others. 3/8 floating double braid poly. Not 3 strand as it is a bear to work with. I put the stern line to each corner aft and the boat lies nicely but one can tie the stern line off to one cleat.
I always coached my sailing students..."you don't want to be the show". When it comes to close quarter manoevering. We've seen some good shows in anchoring situations. Enjoy the park. George
