It seems like a large number of the 22 Cruisers that I've seen have Honda 90s for power. Do the Honda perform better then Yamaha or Suzuki? Is 90 optimal for the 22 Cruiser?

TIA

I have had both Honda 90 & Yamaha F100, I will replace the F100 with the Fuel Injected F115 Yamaha when the time comes. I have not had any experience with the new FI Honda 90. :beer

Here is a thread with some 90 performance figures on 22's. Expect very slightly lesser performance from the 4 strokes (due to greater weight). But, to me, the difference is well worth it in fuel economy, sound levels and sucking smog. I can't wait to go 4 stroke on my main, but I feel my dang 70/2stroke is never going to die and it does just great for cruising speeds. 24.3 flat out in light chop with full tanks (22-23 g) and about 700 lbs of people, dogs and gear. I have also been just dying to up the hp to 90 but about 4-5 mph top end probably doesn't really justify that either.

Here's an interesting one. I ran my brand new 4 stroke 9.9 kicker flat out with a 10x5x4blade high thrust solas prop (getting to 5350rpm) this weekend with the main 14x10x4 blade and permatrim full down "dragging"(needed for steering) and i could still get to 7.4 mph gps. It felt like it was darn near about to go on plane. Got me to thinking that you could probably plane one of these things out comfortably on twin 9.9 4 strokes. At current fuel prices maybe that's where we'll all be heading in a couple years. At least we can.

I think a lot of it has to do with in the olden days (dunno if it is still true) many boats came from the factory with motors all rigged -- these were usually Hondas. If the boats were rigged by dealers (with motors) then there was more of a chance of a Yamaha or Suzuki configuration. My dealer would have gotten Hondas for me but he doesn't carry them and gave me a better deal on my Yamahas.
