Power Questions

I don't want to start a religious debate about brands, but I do have a questions about choosing between:

2006 70hp Suzuki

or a

2006 75 Honda (keep in mind this is the pre 07 fuel injection model)

I would be putting the motor on a 19 angler. I am mainly interested in technical merits or things I should be aware of.

Thanks for the info

Salty guy -

Both fine motors. I've put several thousand hours on the 75/90 Honda carb engines with absolutely no trouble. You MUST run the carbs dry for storage. The same is true for any carb engine (we use a 100 Yamaha now).

The Suzy has a fine reputation - I've never run one.

Not sure how much electronic equipement you plan on using but you might look into which one as a bigger alternator. I think the suzuki does. Otherwise I don't think you will go wrong either way.

I believe, and they will correct me if I am wrong, the honda 75/90 are the same engine at the same weight so whynot get the full hp with the 90. Not sure about the other motor. If the suzy is a different smaller motor at 75 then at 90, go with the lighter engine.

The Suzuki is their oldest design [10 Yrs.] and well proven . Its lighter than the Honda , but that may or may not not be an issue for you .The Honda design is ancient and as proven as the 10 commandments. Both will run for 5000+ hours. If you are into not worrying about carbs gumming up and storage issues , go EFI . If you are hands on and will pay attention to stabilizer and draining carbs for storage , the Honda will perform a little better. Are you confused yet ????? Suzy 60-70 is the same block and Honda 75-90 is the same block .

OK... I gotta ask... why are you not considering the 07 Honda model that is now out and getting some great reviews? Maybe just internet shopping or looking for $$deals on last year models still at dealerships who might be dumping them for 07 motors?

That is correct. There are currently some good deals on the 2006 motors, especially the hondas. They were great motors in 2006, are they now?
