Onward, great to have you join us. Looking forward to it. Some of us will be on the water (I will be launching at Kalama, maybe Thurs.), so keep an eye out for other C-Dorys. It will be great to get to see some Portland area folks.

We should be monitoring VHF 16, but for contact with the commercial traffic on the water, that will probably be on VHF 13, so that may be an alternate to try. The "official" C-BRAT channel is 68, so that might be another option.

Jaynie and I are planning to join you all. We bought our C-Dory last summer and are still green to River boating. Looking forward to meeting everyone. Since the boat will be in the water already, we are going to make our so far longest single day cruise on her from Jantzen Bay. Hoping we will run into some of you putting in a little farther down river.

“Onward”

Rick,

Welcome aboard the Cathlamet Special.

Karen and I are planning a 10 am departure from the Kalama ramp. It’s about 42 river miles from there to Cathlamet. I will send you my cell # via PM. Perhaps we can meet along the way.

Other Dory’s may also be on that section of the river during that time.

We are still planning on putting in at Ridgefield with the intent to swing by Kalama around 10 to meet up with the flotilla. Looking forward to this event.

we'll be steaming out of Ridgefield too....if I get my lower unit back from the shop in time. I just got the old gal tucked into her slip only to discover after a few trips that the oil seal below the water pump has failed......
.I'm thinking that maybe if the lower unit isn't ready, I may just show up in my kayak, I don't want to miss out on Tyboo's coffee

yes I suppose the timing wasn't bad with the crummy weather and all. Hopefully I'll be back on the water this week

As a first-time C-Brat Cruise Director, I am excited about the number of folks who are planning to attend the event.

However, this virus thing has cast a dark shadow over the world, and it will get worse before it gets better.

Like many of you, Karen and I are defined as “endangered species” (people over age 60 who would be severely affected by the virus).

Some would recommend that we not hold this event, and that we all do our “social distancing” part.

Should we postpone the event to a later date?

Should we continue, and take whatever steps are appropriate to protect each other?

What are your thoughts?

I'm planning to attend unless myself or my family is I'll. If you decide to postpone we will do our best to make the new date.

We have a 5 week trip to florida planned this year that I am really hoping I don't have to cancel. I'm hoping my employer doesn't decide to send everybody home like the schools.

I support the idea of postponing. I've been thinking I probably shouldn't make the trip at risk of unknowingly brining along some unwelcomed guests and letting them mingle amongst the crowd. I live and work near the epicenter in WA. In reality we may well be on lockdown by then anyway, Bay Area is already there.

Mike - good thoughts, and a good reason to cancel for now. Karen and I were thinking the same thing about unwelcomed guests.

We cannot suggest a new date, as nobody knows how long this thing will last.

I will call the marina tomorrow. I'm sure they were looking forward to the income.

Over the next day or so, I will send a PM to those on the signup who may not have seen this post.

Our country has made it through some tough times, and I'm hopeful that someday soon we can all look back and say "We made it."

Karen and I will still be doing some day cruises on the planned weekend. Perhaps a Dory or 2 will pop up on our radar.

Stay safe, and let's hope we will have another chance to get together.

I'm good with delaying, it was going to rain with 50 mph winds anyway
see ya on the river

Hey Ken, can you please send me a link to your crystal ball? I have some weather things I need to check on too. 8)

As to cancelling, I have to agree that there is potential for unintended and unintentional exposure. As a retired Respiratory Therapist who has worked with those who have succumbed to "just some little bug" and wound up in ICU on a vent for a week or two and survived or worse, I know none of us like to imagine ourselves in that kind of a situation but it happens, way more that we like -- especially if it is ourselves or our family so Wesley, I think canceling is the right decision.

Now if Ramarine or Garmin quickly come up with a newer high tech radar that will spot the Covid Carriers and alarm when they come within 100 feet we could probably get on board with that and go ahead on the group cruise.

Sounds good to me if the marina folks are OK with it. We were there on a road trip a couple days ago and it looked like the taco truck and the beer joint were still closed. Good thing, probably, because the restrooms were blocked off, too.

Ken, I would be all for it but I would say to delay the dates some to give those who are trying to get their Covid Shots, time for that and for the inoculation to take effect.
