Porta Potti

I’m sure you can find parts, Google the model number and manufacture.

BTW, I found this thread quite amusing especially the part about men kneeling before the porta potty to urinate. YHGTBK LOL

I guess I should have said that I can find the part number on the Thetford.com site, and I can find service centers. I have not had any luck in contacting anyone.

I am not sure if there is enough people that would want to repair one that a dealer would have nay parts.

While this tread is back and kicking I will take the opportunity to ask something. We are seriously considering replacing the jabsco unit in our 25 with the fanciest (large) possibly electric flush portable option and plumbing it for direct pumpout to the waste port already on the boat. It would eliminate the storage tank in the stern (fender storage), crummy tiny toilet, and give us the option of a pour-out empty if pumpout facilities could not be found. The flushing on the jabsco is less than great and it fills the large tank faster than I ever thought possible. We like the composting head option but it wouldn't have the pumpout option, is very costly, and likely appeals to a smaller audience at time of resale. Thoughts? The large Sealand unit even looks good! It would be nice to lighten up that stern and the boat could use more weight on that side anyway.

When we moved aboard Halcyon I promised El she would never have to dump the porta potti - and she hasn't. We had the good fortune of returning from Hawai'i with a menehune hiding in our suitcase. When I left the case on the boat the menehune apparently jumped out and hid. We've had him aboard ever since - and what a help he is. When he deems it necessary, the porta potti gets dumped. So El doesn't even have to witness the dumping.

Next time you go the the Islands whisper a few nice words on the night wind, mention an unlimited supply of mai'a in return for a few favors, and the 'little one" might take a shine to you, your boat, and the potti.

Steve, I ordered a part a couple of months ago for a Thetford port-a-potti right here in Seattle, conveniently located next to Fisheries Supply and they were able to have it in stock within a few days.

You just need to identify the correct model number and they have diagrams of all the parts with the correct part numbers.

Good luck in your search.

Hi Peter,
What is the name and phone number of the store? I have the part number I just need someone that will sell it to me.

Thanks,
Steve

COME ON! First it’s kneeling before the Porta-Potty and now it’s having your potty dumped by the mythical menehune of Kauai. Now I have seen firsthand what these little people can to in a single night, the menehune ditch is quite amazing. But enslaving one to do your dirty work is just immoral.

Oops, I may have misspoke Steve. I actually found the part for a Dometic portable toilet. However, Thetford has the same deal on their website. I'm not sure which model you need but they do have the exploded views of the parts and you can click on the dealer locater to find the nearest service center. I hope this helps.

One of the dealers finally called back and will check on the part for me. Looks like I will be 'good to go' soon - so to speak.

Living in a very hot summer environment I am curious about about what is the best chemical deodorizer to use. In the winter I never notice the porta potty but needless to say the tolerance gets a bit lower in 100 degree temperatures....

Thanks,

Karl

Our little mene is hardly a slave. Just a hard working guy who likes to help out and keep a happy home - most of the day he's kicked back snoring in the little burrow he dug in the foam under the v-berth.

Why, we know folks who work for peanuts and he gets bananas. However, he left a note about maybe retiring some day but he's kinda hooked on bananas - and when he heard his retirement pension is peanuts he figured life ain't so bad working after all - kinda like other folks we know.

For a deodorant we have used "AQUA-KEM" by Thetford for years and have been totally satisfied. (use quite abit less than instructions and no odor). Boy, this appears to be one of the more popular topics!

We also use Thetford. No problem. Yep, an important topic for all and one often dodged. Isn't this site great? - as long as we're 'nice' we talk about anything.

Returning to the original post which initiated this thread, my understanding is that porta-potties are no longer permitted in Ontario.

True.

"Free-standing portable toilets (i.e. porta potty) are not permitted onboard. Boats fitted with a toilet must have a holding tank, or, a marine sanitation device. (Boats built prior to May 3, 2007 have until May 3, 2012 to comply. Boats built on or after May 3, 2007 must comply now."

If you've got an older boat, you've got a little more time.

Charlie..i just went to the Transport Canada site and i couldn't find anything about prohibiting porti-potties in 2012...where did you read that. Tug

Charlie i found where it was stated that ...no Porta-Potties are allowed in Ontario..........that is weird.....Tug
