Port Townsend hourly day moorage?

So the fambly wants me to drive them over to Pt. Townsend tomorrow to shop and lunch, etc. Only problem is the Wooden Boat Show will be on and moorage will be at a premium. Any suggestions as to where I can tie up for a couple of hours, like a restaurant, etc.?

I suggest that you telephone the Boat Haven. They have a website under Port of Port Townsend. I'm sure that they have some slips available and there is a shuttle accross from Safeway ( 1 block away) that will take you downtown.

Ended up mooring out as when we called the Boat Haven they said they were completely full.

Can anyone tell me what the bottom is like in the mooring field directly off downtown? My anchor was dragging and I could not get it to hold against the offshore breeze (some of us stayed on board while others dinghied in.)

It is a 25# Manson Supreme. This is the first time it has not held for me.

Well, the chart (18464_1) shows mud, and I have had trouble with my Manson Supreme 25 setting and holding in mud. I think that its shape is optimized for grass, rocks, etc., and it plows in mud, just like a CQR. They advertise "It's Spear Head means that weed isn't a problem for the Supreme." That spear head probably goes right through soft stuff.

I do notice that Manson now has a Bruce copy and they claim "The Ray anchor is a quick set anchor. It's ideal for use in sand, and mud. It usually sets in just the length of the anchor itself."

I do plan on using the Supreme in So Cal because of the seaweed/grass and rocks, but I went back to the Bruce for mud this summer. Just more cross sectional area to pull through the mud.

I think they're both fine anchors, just use each where appropriate.
