Polly Creek claming Alaska idea?

I’ve flown over to Polly Creek (other side of cook inlet across from Clam Gulch) with my buddy Gary a couple of times for razor claming and wondering if anyone has ever tried beaching over there; the razor claming is phenomenal. The first time we went on a minus tide we landing almost a mile out and the razors where colossal, over twice as big as anything dug at clam gulch! Think we got our 100 clam limit a ½ hour tops. The clams are plentiful closer in but much smaller because of the commercial diggers I guess.
So thinking of beaching the boat about half way into falling tide, has anyone tried this? Of course I’d have to trailer down to Kenai or make the 100 cruise from Anchorage.

Have not tried the West Side yet! I let the boat go dry in Kachemak Bay while clamming all the time. That is what thoes 25' tide swings are for!! CLAMS :mrgreen: :beer

I have enjoyed digging razor clams on the west side of Cook Inlet for over 40 years. Polly Creek is very good but so is the right side entrance to Tuxidni Bay, Chinitna bay and Oil Bay(Sand is hard but the clams are there). I have only gone by airplane and the wind does come up once in a while.
There is no bag limit on the west side of Cook Inlet for razor clams, so you can dig as long as you want next time.

It’s not about the money, besides it was my buddies nickel; guess that’s what friend are for. The ironic thing is he doesn’t really like razor clams so he flies down to Kachamak Bay for the steamers, more meat for my freezer.
Did however fry up some razors using my wife’s grandmothers recipe from the days she cooked at the Salty Dog and he loved them.

Is your buddy's plane a blue&yellow or green super cub ?? :lol:
 
I always said I could get all the clams I wanted at Carr's for about 8 dollars.

That said, the steamers in Kachemak Bay are more fun, they don't bite, and "cleaning" is easy. It's really nice to step out of the boat, dig some steamers, climb back in and wait for the tide to come up while having a cup of coffee.

I boil a pot of sea water add clams & melt a little butter, a splash of tobasco & eat Fresh Clams until the water returns :mrgreen: :beer

Bear Sausage or Ham, while waiting for the water to come back aint bad either :wink:
 
bears eat clams?? really I have never heard that before. I would not have thunk of that one. do they eat the shells or crack them in their teeth or what? I would really like to see that.

From the piles of Bear Scat I have come uppon; Bears eat Hair, Hide, Feathers, Beaks, Feet, Lips, Shells, Berrys, Bushes, Coolers, Steel & Aluminum Cans or what evert they dam well please! :wink: :mrgreen: :beer
 
Craziest thing I ever saw, :shock: them bears eaten them clams like sunflower seeds; where you think all them empty clam shells come from on the beach?
 
We took the Dory Mae over to Polly Creek last year in June and we beached at low tide. We got skunked on clams but it was an awesome day on the water!

Skunked, how close to the high tide line where you? Every time I’ve been over there you could fill up a bucket without passing beyond the wing tips on our plane. You must have been out for an adventure more then a clam-digging jaunt. My wife’s grandfather dug razor clams commercially back in the 50s, and it is still a commercial razor digging spot today.
Can’t believe you got skunked, but that’s ok, we don’t wont everyone trotting over there to get there fill. :wink
Must have been a great adventure..
 
:oops: Didn't say we were good. That was actually one of my first times clam digging. So it was more of an adventure for me. Our friends got a few so it wasn't a total bust. We did some halibut fishing after the tide came back in and did pretty good.

How true--How true, Seen piles with most of that list included and teeth marks in the rest.
