Permanent Tank Under Port Side Passengers Seat?

Has anyone installed a permanent tank under the passengers seat (port side)? After some measurements it looks like one of the Moeller 12 gallon permanent tanks will fit on my 16 Cruiser! I was just checking to see if anyone had already made the modification on their C Dory. I know it will fit aft, but having the weight forward and moving the batteries under the Starboard Seat might take a little weight out of my stern. Any opinions will be appretiated and taken into consideration. :smile

I assume you mean for gasoline and not water? Just make sure it's fastened down securely. I'd put a long hose on it with a fitting that fits your engine, don't get fancy with tee's, valves, etc. Just a hose and fitting. Sounds very doable.

It is for gas. Well I was planning on putting a Tee valve in the back in case I needed extra fuel vial a portable tank for those longer trips.

Tees and valves are just other places to leak bad stuff (gas in this case). If you just put a fitting on the end of a long hose hooked to the tank (don't forget to put a primer bulb in there too), you can just unplug the tank you usually use and plug in your 12 gallon tank.

KISS principle!

I have mounted a 16 gallon tank under our v-berth. We still have useable storage on either side of it. The only thing still mounted under the motor well is the bilge pump. I'm still plumbing it. It will have a deck fill, anti-syphon and overboard vent. I believe this is all required for a permanent fuel tank.

I don't believe fumes should be a problem. However I ultimately decide to do this project (Fore, Aft, or Mid) It will have a top fill and overflow vent on the topside of the deck, whatever location it ends up.

I love the whole saddle tank idea, but the aftermarket versions are about 1-1 1/2 inches too wide at the top. Twin saddles would be excellent. But now I have the whole under both seats idea swimming in my head. Excellent weigh distribution, but the starboard side would be a trick with all of the controls running through the same space.

More thought is going to have to go into this project before I take action. Worse case will be twin 12's aft. Doesn't mean they will be full all of the time, just when needed. Keep the input coming, this is how I process information before doing any significant project. I need all of the perspectives I can get.

Ramos how about some pictures of that front mounted permanent tank!

I will see what I can do. We are in the middle of wheat harvest right now. I have been meaning to up-date our album for quite some time now!
