Based upon our recent trip to Desolation Sound we have the following recommendations for those intending to launch and park at Campbell River.
We checked out the Salmon Point Resort and found it to offer camping on land and cabins and to be in a nice setting. But the marina has no power, the ramp has no dock, and they will not allow boaters to overnight on the boats in the marina. The cost for launch, overnight in the marina and two weeks parking was $85.00 and a cabin was $240+.
The best ramp in town is at Discovery Park Marina and is best a mid to high tide. The cost is $10.00 and this includes unlimited parking. We launched here and ran a mile or so South to Fishermans Wharf marina (port operated). We had stopped by prior to launching and arranged for a spot for the night for $22.00 and got a shower and bath card. Showers were clean and as nice as we have seen. They cost $2 for 6 mins. This facility has no ramp but does offer free parking. The marina is located directly across the street from two sporting goods stores that open at 7AM and 8AM and their are places to eat within a short walk. We did not depart with anything of value in the truck and the trailer locks to the hitch which locks to the truck. Everything was as we left it and I would not hesitate to park there again.
