I voted for Johnson, since our C-Dory sports two of them and have been trouble free. (I did have Johnson previously and didn't enjoy it as much, but in its' defense the Johnson I had at the time was carburated).
However to legitimize the poll any of the Johnsons such as mine are actually Suzuki engines.
That being said, at the end of the poll, the Johnson and Suzuki scores should be added together, or perhaps .......just change the choices to read "Suzukison" :roll:

I voted for Yamaha. Always starts, always runs, always brings be back home. And I always have 2 
incase I need a kicker.
I just went back and read the posts from the 5 YO thread. Some fun dialog there, and sure a different outcome on the poll.

Sometimes choosing a motor is more than what brand you like or heard is best. I originally wanted Yamaha but they didn't make a 15 HP kicker with remote control. Yamaha only had the tiller model in 15 HP and you had to do some conversion to get it remote. Also to start it manually you had to take off the motor cover and wrap a rope around the fly wheel. Suzuki also didn't have a 15 HP with remote control. I wanted remote control for the kicker at my rear helm.
There wasn't much difference to me what brand of main motor that I was looking at. Suzuki, Yamaha and Honda were the three finalists. Etec was interesting but I thought they weren't out long enough to form an opinion about reliability. I do have friends who have issues with Etec so I'm glad I didn't go that route. Honda had the following advantages for the kicker which made the final cut. First, Honda model for model had a larger alternator to keep the batteries charged while fishing and running the radar in the fog while trolling. A four thousand watt radar uses lots of battery up if the alternator can't keep up with it. Second the Honda had a 15 HP remote control model and Yamaha and Suzuki didn't. I know the whole 8HP is plenty for a kicker argument. I got that from the Y and S salesmen. I fish offshore a lot and would rather have the extra power when crossing the bar in the event that the main would fail. Also the 15 HP model had a bigger alternator which helped point one. Last and most important was Honda has a starter rope included in the motor cowling on their remote models. If the batteries run down, all I have to do is manually start the 15 HP kicker and charge a battery up enough to fire up the big guy. I know this works because I had one battery fail and the house load ran down the other battery. The backup plan worked perfectly. The kicker started with the pull rope and charged up the battery enough to fire up the 200HP and get back home.

I've got Yamaha and I should be ashamed for voting against them (for Suzuki) because the Yamahas have been very reliable for me, plus they are the standard (parts, service etc.) in the remoter areas of BC and Mexico (next time you are up there, pay attention to what the locals run!) All that said, the gearing and power/weight ratios of the Suzukis is compelling.

I have had up to five Hondas at one time and one Yamaha and I voted for Yamaha. The primary reasons were:
a. Open platform, you can get engine data and view it on multiple devices. No need for proprietary gauges.
b. Parts available both locally and on line.
c. Good source of technical assistance both on line and locally.
d. Excellent corrosion resistance.
e. Diagnostic software and engine manuals readily available.
Hondas I have had: BF20, BF25, BF90D, and two BF150s. Hondas I still have: 20, 25, and two 150's. Yamaha I have: F150.

Evinrude and Suzuki have NMEA 2000 data available, so again, no proprietory gauges. Actually, Yamaha isn't using NMEA 2000, but there is a conversion unit available. Command Link II may be NMEA 2000.

Traveling around a bit I like Yamaha..
If there is a town large enough for both a red light and a boat ramp, more than likely there is a shop with certified Yamaha mechanics and dealerships....and... they back up their dealerships pretty nice for warrantee...and maybe even some just out of warrantee work.
Not saying the others are bad....I do not think there is a bad pick on the list..

I have two Honda 150s, voted for Suzuki. When looking at new engines now, I look for weight, alternator output, larger displacement (cubic inches) and dealer service last.
I do most of my own maintenance so the dealer service is secondary. We cruise for weeks at a time mostly rather than fish or day cruise, so the battery charging output is important. If I was outfitting a new TomCat, it would get 2x 175 Suzukis.
The Hondas, by the way, are pretty near flawless.

So far I have 260 engine hours and 2500 nautical miles on my Suzuki's without complaint. I would not hesitate to get Honda's if my local dealer service network for Suzuki were not convenient.
I have two Honda BF150s and a great Honda authorized service center nearby. When I repower down the road (waaaaaaaay down the road, hopefully), I'll probably do Honda again.
And if all goes well, I have all data from these BF150s on the N2K backbone here soon. Then, all them analog gauges are going away.
